17. Exultant - Steven Baxter
This was better than I expected. Baxter is much better when he's writing about complex future societies distorted by millennia of war; he should stick to that and leave the dark age Britain stuff to other folks. B+

18. Spin Control - Chris Moriarty
Having read "Spin State" last year, I was surprised to see such a rave review of this book in a BoingBoing post. I was even more surprised when the book lived up to the review. I literally had trouble putting this one down. A+

19. Light - M. John Harrison
This is an odd book. Entertaining, great scenery, but it just didn't strike me as being as profound as it wanted to be. I reserve the right to revise this review should I reread. B+

20. Double Contact - James White
Ahh, the Sector General books. Not deep, not surprising, but simple fun. They're pretty much sci-fi in the way original Star Trek is sci-fi - but with less bad acting. This was an average entry. C

21. A Calculus of Angels - J. Gregory Keyes
The plot thickens - middle book in the trilogy is as good as the first. Well, maybe not quite as good. I liked some of the new characters and was somewhat dismayed to see some of the old so abused by events. A-
