Fairytale The Snuff-Box Imp from The Steadfast Tin Soldier.
Relationship to Tale So he’s a reincarnated fairy tale. Who gives a fuck? Paddy doesn’t really care one way or the other about some silly kid’s story that happened back in the stone ages and, yet, he’s got a remarkable memory for his past lives. This one of the only reasons he even associates with other tales; they’re the only other people who understand just how damn weird it is to have clear memories of the Bolshevik Uprising (which Paddy took part in as a revolutionary).
As for being the Snuff-Box Imp, well Paddy thinks it’s stupid that anyone could consider him a villain. I mean, yeah, he did have some malicious intent toward the tin soldier, but what did he do about it? Tell the guy he was an idiot and would end up shoulder-deep in shit if he didn’t get his head out of his ass? So what if he’d been right. Since when's being right a crime?
Paddy’s got no lingering animosity for the tin soldier or anyone else from his tale. In fact he could go through this life and the next several without ever running into one of them and be completely fine. In fact, he’d probably prefer it that way.
Ability While the Snuff-Box Imp could ostensibly perform magic (or it was at least implied in the tale), Paddy’s only remaining ability seems to be making damning proclamations that almost unerringly come true. Whether this is a form of curse, or simply a rather miserable precognitive ability remains to be seen, but Paddy tends not to make any predictions regarding others if he can help it... unless he really dislikes them.
Tale Status Paddy's pretty open about his tale and who he is. In his mind, he's got nothing to be ashamed of.
Paddy is a middle child, the son of Gary Yost and Colleen Bailey. Gary is a construction foreman in the Bronx, where Paddy and his brothers grew up, and Colleen owns her own cleaning business in Connecticut. If Colleen’s retaking of her maiden name wasn’t an indication, Paddy’s parents are divorced, though this occurred long after all of the Yost children left the household.
Paddy’s older brother, Jimmy, is a CPA up in New Hampshire and the two speak occasionally, though they’re not what one would call close. Jimmy is eight years older than Paddy so, by the time little Paddy was old enough to string together coherent sentences, Jimmy was practically a teenager. Paddy was instead much closer with his younger brother, Danny, who was two years his junior.
While Jimmy was driven to succeed, making high marks in school and winning awards, Paddy and Danny were busy playing stickball or daring one another to ring Old Lady Schaumb’s doorbell before running away. By the time Paddy and Danny reached high school the two were pretty much inseparable. Sure they fought occasionally, like most brothers, but they generally always had one another’s backs.
It was in high school that Paddy and Danny began running with a rougher crowd. Neither one was particularly studious nor athletic, so they naturally gravitated towards the other outcasts. Paddy was pretty much the de facto leader of their little group--his brashness and willingness to fight tended to dissuade anyone who wanted to mess with the freaks--and Danny was effectively his second in command.
Once Paddy graduated high school, he stayed in the area to be close to his family and friends, and mainly worked unchallenging, uninteresting jobs for a few years. Eventually, he became a bartender and that job seemed to stick. Meanwhile, Danny had also graduated and began taking on odd jobs, similar to Paddy’s. Unfortunately, it was through association with several people from the bar where Paddy worked, that Danny got into drugs.
Paddy and Danny had occasionally done softer drugs in high school and after graduation but, by the time he was nineteen, Danny was addicted to heroin and spent most of his time strung out. Paddy did what he could for his brother, and tried to help him by putting him through rehab a couple of times, but nothing seemed to stick. When Paddy asked Danny why he’d turned to drugs, Danny only gave him a half-mumbled response about stories and a being cursed. What Danny hadn’t said was that he was a reincarnated fairy tale. But, as Paddy hadn’t come into his own Tale nature at that point, Danny thought his brother would have him committed if he admitted the truth.
Danny overdosed on heroin a few days shy of his twentieth birthday and that was when Paddy’s memories of the Snuff-Box Imp finally came flooding in. There’d been a man at Danny’s funeral who’d come to talk to Paddy about his newly rediscovered nature and had handed him a book that Paddy literally hurled back at him. He wanted no part of anything that led to Danny’s death. A few weeks later the same book arrived in the mail and Paddy shoved it in a drawer, hoping to never lay eyes on it again. He found it when he was moving, three years later, and finally took the time to open it.
Paddy’s not what you’d call particularly active in the Tale community. He’s been busy with getting his life together, opening his bar in Queens, and running interference between his parents, who split up over each blaming the other for Danny’s death. Occasionally he just gets lonely, however, and needs to talk to someone who’s in the same boat, if only to remind himself he isn’t crazy.
Past Lives -
1859 - 1895 Oldrich Dvorak: A gambler in Prague, Oldrich used his prediction and probability altering abilities to influence his winnings. He had his legs broken and was dumped in the Vltava river by some unsavory types who took offense to his always winning. Died at age 36.
1895 -1918 Vladimir Karovitch: A Bolshevik soldier in Petrograd, he took part in the October uprising and the march on the Winter Palace. He was also the 'big soldier' quoted by John Reed in Ten Days That Shook The World in the Winter Palace memoir. He then went on to fight in WWI and died in combat that same year at age 23.
1919 - 1932 ?: Whoever he was during this time, Paddy can't remember. The lifespan (a mere 13 years) seems remarkably short, which makes him wary of ever actually finding out.
1932 - 1976 William Belmont: A war orphan from Manchester turned petty crook, William was in and out of prison until he died in a yard brawl in 1975. He was 44 at the time of his death.
Paddy is trouble with a capital T. He lives hard, drinks hard, smokes a pack a day, rides a motorcycle and has been in more than his fair share of barroom brawls. He regularly takes vacations involving scuba diving, base jumping and sky diving, and never backs down from a confrontation. His temper is legendary, though his cocky, could-care-less attitude belies this fact. While Paddy doesn’t have a hair-trigger, he can be explosive, vindictive and violent if provoked. And it can be hard to tell exactly what will set him off or why.
While he’s something of an adrenaline junkie and hard-edged type, all in all Paddy’s not really a bad sort. He’s infinitely loyal to his friends and family, and will help you hide the bodies if you’re someone he’s grown to care about. Unfortunately, due to his somewhat rough lifestyle, he has a bad habit of bringing out the worst in others, as his uninhibited behavior can be more than a little contagious. He’s also extremely good at getting other people into trouble, though he, himself, always seems to escape the fall of the axe.
Due to the loss of his brother, Paddy doesn’t do harder drugs but still occasionally smokes pot or takes E. He generally doesn’t care what other people do; their lives are their own, but he prefers not to be around junkies if he can help it. He’s not a saint by any stretch, but if he saw a loved one heading down the same path as Danny he’d try to intervene. It hasn’t dawned on him that he can be somewhat hypocritical in regard to his own behavior.
It takes a lot to get through to Paddy. It’s not that he’s stupid or slow, but exceedingly stubborn. He’s got an opinion on everything and once his mind’s made up, nothing short of an act of god will change it. He’s also not too good at these things called ‘relationships’. He’s got a few close friends and family always comes first, but he rarely dates and is infinitely picky about women. He’s had a handful of girlfriends and an even longer list of friends-with-benefits, but for the most part Paddy’s a loner. He doesn’t need a relationship to be happy and most of the time he’s only looking for a fling unless the girl is really exceptional.

sluefooting Paddy's not a bad looking guy, and he can be downright charming when he's trying to get into a girl's pants. These are the flings he's had in the past or is still having in the present. They probably won't amount to anything other than a good time, but generally speaking, a good time is what Paddy's after. Open - female, multiple
The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret - Paddy's older brother, Jimmy, is probably a Tale himself, as Paddy and Danny were both Tales. Jimmy may simply be a late bloomer or, for some reason, has never bothered to tell Paddy what they have in common. Open - male, if anyone wants to pick up Jimmy as a character
Better Living Through Chemistry -

Misfit Love - In the land of fairy tales everyone's got a true love, right? Maybe that's not exactly true for Paddy, but this girl in particular has somehow pushed past his barriers and he's fallen for her hard. There's no telling whether it will be a lifelong thing or will end in tears, but Paddy is more than a little confused, grateful and surprisingly vulnerable. Semi-open - female, should start as "Better Living Through Chemistry"
Little Sister -
tuliped Paddy is incredibly loyal once you've earned his trust, and there are some people in particular he feels indebted to. These are the people he wants to guide and protect. Maybe they call out to some hidden, humane part of him, or maybe they've come to him for help. Whatever the case, you don't mess with them, or Paddy will mess with you. Open - male or female, multiple
