My list of Filipino vocab has just gotten longer.

Rewind to fil class. We were talking about proper translations of english terms to Filipino. Examples of which are: sugnayan (physics), hipnayan(math) and kapnayan (chemistry)

Then it got interesting.(much to the delight of my blockmates.)hmm...sexually repressed?kidding.

So anyways, here are some of the other english-filipino terms:
punlay(sperm),tunod(penis)and kanluban(vagina)

No, they didn't just randomly choose letters to come up with these translations.Apparently, they are based on existing Filipino terms for other things. The term punlay originally means a seed or something, to which another form of life grows. Hence the term, punla ng buhay. Tunod was taken from (this is weird) a banana leaf that hasn't opened/bloomed yet. Kanluban, according to my fil prof, is where you put sharp objects.(ah ok...)

And oh yea, i'm sure you guys are familiar with the term maharlika. Well, Imelda Marcos wanted to change the name of our country, to that. Her point being that the name Philippines is of spanish origin, and our country should be named with something that's trully Filipino.Well, i'd rather have my country with a foreign-influenced name than a Filipino term for scrotum.
