So this has been a pretty wild week, weather-wise.
Let's recap, shall we?
Last Monday and Tuesday, out of nowhere, the highs climbed into the mid-40s. Then on Tuesday night, the temperature plummeted FORTY DEGREES in SIX HOURS! Seriously. I went to take the trash out at about 8PM and almost got hypothermia (it had been 48 degrees that afternoon). Tuesday night, there was a massive thunderstorm (yes, thunder in January), with wind gusts of FIFTY miles an hour. Wednesday morning the mercury hovered at about 2 degrees, with a wind chill of 15 below. And it stayed below freezing until Thursday afternoon, at which point the clouds started gathering for a wicked winter storm. Predictions called for 10 to 12 inches of snow between Thursday night and Friday afternoon. We only ended up with about 6 inches (thank gawd), but according to the local weathercasters, there was actual LIGHTNING associated with the overnight storm, and near-blizzard conditions (known apparently as a "white out") Friday morning. Now the temperatures are starting to climb again, and we've been told to expect rain on Monday and Tuesday.
I swear to goddess, if I see that little weasel
Punxsutawney Phil around here anytime soon, I will twist his little groundhog neck.
How do people stand it year after year? The only thing making this whole winter nastiness at all bearable is the knowledge that I will NEVER have to go through it again. As
mikeashke and I have both said in recent days, don't these people know that there are places in this world that don't get snowed on all winter??
Anyhow, I'm pretty bushed so I'll probably turn in soon. Been cleaning the flat all afternoon in preparation for tomorrow's Super Bowl party (nothing like the impending arrival of guests to motivate a much-needed scouring), but now I feel like curling up with one of the zillion movies or books I got from the library before the snow began to fall -- so concerned was I that I would be snowbound all weekend. :)
Hope youall're enjoying warmer weather, wherever you find yourself this Groundhog's Day. And
yankeejetta,
