"25 Things You Don't Know About Me" meme

Jan 29, 2009 12:17

Stolen from Facebook - but it seems like it'd be fun to pass around on LJ, too.

Write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. On FB you tag 25 people to do it, too, but it's much easier to tag people over there. So, over here: if you're reading this, consider yourselves tagged.  :)

I have had at least one pet guinea pig at all times, ever since I was in sixth grade. Currently, it’s a little girl named Boo.

I have a Voodoo writing altar.

I really, really like NFL football, especially the Packers: for Christmas my husband gave me a Brett Favre coffee table book, the special Brett Favre Sports Illustrated commemorative edition, and a 10 DVD collection of classic Green Bay Packers games - and I was THRILLED. (I also like the Saints, the Cowboys, the Colts, and the Ravens. Notice the “great quarterback “ theme there.)

My favorite artist is Gahan Wilson.

I like broiled oysters.

I wanted to be a foreign correspondent when I grew up and I wasn’t even going to think about getting married until I was 40.

The career I have is much, much cooler than the one I dreamed of, and I’ve been happily married for 20 years.

I became a piscatarian (no meat, but yay fish!) on Jan. 1, 2000.

I swear a lot, particularly after two glasses of wine, however, the characters in my fiction almost never do.

I used to be the editor of an Iowa newspaper.

I like looking at pictures of dragons, but I don’t like reading about them (unless the writer is Terry Pratchett).

For the last 19 years, I’ve (almost) always had a male beta (Japanese fighting fish) named Not Dead Yet. They generally don’t live for more than a couple years, so I’ve had 7 or 8 of them, though I am currently without one because Not Dead Yet died.

Going back to my earliest fiction publications, my author bio has (almost) always ended with, “She lives in Chicago with her husband, a guinea pig and a fish named Not Dead Yet.” It is for biographical accuracy that I always name the fish NDY. That, and it amuses me.

I met my husband at a journalism convention.

I think feather boas should be acceptable fashion accessories outside of strip clubs and Bourbon St.

My favorite coffee flavor is chocolate raspberry, my favorite wine is a Merlot not made from California grapes, and my favorite liquor is small batch Kentucky Bourbon, preferably Knob Creek or Pappy Van Winkle.

When my husband retires, I want to buy a small place in New Orleans, near the French Quarter, and live in Chicago during Spring and Summer and New Orleans during Fall and Winter.

I love to dance, particularly when I have the whole floor to myself.

I grew up in a house that was haunted part-time. The ghost moved among three or four houses in our neighborhood.

I’m slowly learning to read tarot.

When I’m walking down the sidewalk, I will stop to pet any animal that walks by, even if I’m running late.

I grow lots of herbs in windowsill boxes, but never get around to cooking with them.

I happily gave up eating meat, but would never give up eating chocolate.

I hate zombies. Not in an “Ooh, gross!”, and “Eek they might bite me!” kind of way; in a, they’re really boring, and I hope I never have to read or watch another zombie story again. (Writer friends - please don’t take that as a challenge.)

I really enjoy cooking, but I very seldom do it. (Opening a can of something and heating it up is not cooking, in my book.)
