We've returned from Milwaukee where we celebrated an early Christmas and attended a 50th Birthday party for Barry's sister, Germaine.
After a 1-day work week for Barry back in Chicago, we had a lovely Christmas day together. By lovely I mean we never got out of pajamas, ate more apple pie than vegetables, and watched Christmas gifts on TV. And by that I don't mean we set the packages on top of the console and stared at them.
The highlight of my presents was a 10-disc set of the all-time greatest Green Bay Packers football games. (Curiously minus the Ice Bowl, but we already have that special edition disc.) Now, even 3 or 4 years ago I'd have mocked the idea of watching old football games. Seriously mocked it. And yet, perhaps because we have to DVR all our games and watch them days later, I find myself thinking this is a fabulous idea.
So fabulous, in fact, that we watched 2 of the games yesterday. Brett Favre in all his glory! (Did I mention that Barry also got me a Favre coffee table tribute book, and a copy of the Sports Illustrated special edition naming Favre MVP of the year for 2007?) This is becoming a borderline obsession. I may need a gift certificate for group therapy for my birthday. ;-)
Today we leave for 4 days in Iowa for the grand Peterson clan potluck Christmas gathering, and an open house the following day to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. It's also a public thank you to all the folks who have helped out my folks since my dad's stroke - with special invites going out to the nurses, physical therapists, doctors, and paramedics who have helped him. Literally, the whole town is invited, though they didn't all receive personal invitations. An announcement in the newspaper twice took care of those duties. My mom's crazy, but she's not that crazy!
