I finally bought my new laptop - the one Barry told me to buy as an anniversary present. I've done a fair bit of research, including trying to find the models in stores to try out the keyboards.
I chose the Fujitso LifeBook P8010. It weighs less than 3 pounds and has a battery life of 6 hours. (preens) There are very few that weigh less than 3 pounds, and most of those have a battery life of 2-3 hours. Usually, you trade off weight for battery life. Or you wind up with a cramped keyboard and a weird keyboard configuration. This one has only 1 key that I think is out of place, but I can live with that. It still manages to have a built in CD/DVD drive, which my old laptop did not. And wi-fi, of course.
I've named my little wonderkund Gadabout, because it's actually light enough that I will carry it around with me on a regular basis. (My old one was just too heavy to carry without putting a serious strain on my back, especially after the battery - & the replacement battery - went wonky and I had to carry the adaptor too.)
