E-Mail will most easily be seen by me, though instant messages are fine too. I may be too occupied/asleep/head-in-a-video-game to reply right away, but feel free to leave messages or poke me and see if I'm around. Just don't expect a quick response. ;) IC comments left in my inbox will be easy for me to spot, as well.

I'm still thinking about this. A basic run down of things so far would be:

- Don't kill Al. At least not permanently. Discussion of this is fine. I'm open to plots regarding this. Chances are Al can look very "dead" and still be perfectly okay, but certain parts of his armor can never be damaged because it would mean certain death for him, so I'd like to work out details of damage and the extent of such first. ;)

- Al is young. And quite innocent and naive. He probably hasn't had thought one about sex yet. If someone approaches him in this manner, he probably won't even get it. He likes girls. He notices girls. If he saw one naked (completely on accident, mind you) he'd be terribly embarrassed, apologetic, and blush as much as a suit of armor can. For days even. But he probably won't get involved in anything "adult".

- I'm open to any and all ideas. I'm open to refusing a lot of them, too. But feel free to approach me about them. If I'm not sure how to handle situations, or not comfortable with something, or so embroiled in something else that I can't get involved, I'll let you know.

That last one pretty much covers it. I guess it's generally how things work, but when in doubt, just ask me. ;)

In Character Information

character name: Alphonse Elric
Fandom: FullMetal Alchemist (The first anime, 2003)
Timeline: Last episode of the first anime series, as he attempts to bring his brother Edward Elric back to life. He has no idea if his attempt was successful.
Character's age: Technically 14, but he still speaks with the voice of his 10 year old self.

powers, skills, pets and equipment:

Alphonse's body is a gunmetal-colored suit of armor to which his soul is bonded. (After a period of exposure to the mist, it may begin to turn into a copper-colored metal.) As a result, all of his physical attributes are those of a metallic suit of armor, encompassing its strengths (impervious to some damage, feels no pain, does not tire, is immune to disease) and weaknesses (has no physical sensation, is vulnerable to intense heat and cold). This also means he does not need to eat, drink or sleep, though he misses doing so.

His soul is bonded to the armor by way of an alchemical glyph printed in blood on the inside of the armor. If the glyph is damaged in any way, his soul's link to the armor would be broken. Because of this, Al must be sure to protect the glyph from any harm.

Alphonse has a genius-level intellect, and has studied physical sciences such as chemistry and biology, and the art of alchemy. His deep knowledge of these subjects allow him to be a prodigious alchemist with impressive ability. He is efficient and thorough, and uses his extensive knowledge to creatively and accurately use alchemy to alter the world around him. General alchemical abilities include transforming existing matter into another shape, repairing mechanical items, breaking matter down into its component parts, building structures and tools out of basic materials, etc. Alchemists are bound by the Law of Equivalent Exchange which states that "nothing can be gained without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost" (though use of a Philosopher's Stone may negate this). There is also a taboo against using human beings as alchemical materials, or using alchemy to disturb the "natural order" of life, especially to bring a human back to life.

Al was once himself transformed into a Philosopher's Stone and the hollow internal part of his armor was filled with a glowing red crystalline structure. The Stone augmented his alchemical abilities a great deal, and made it possible for him to transmute without a circle. (Non-canon:) After appearing in Anatole, most of the red crystal is gone from his body, though small bits still cling to the inside of his armor plating. His abilities are now somewhat lessened, but he is still able to transmute without a circle. When he does call upon the Philosopher Stone residue to augment his abilities, red glowing rune-like glyphs appear on his face. He restrains from using the stone as much as possible though, for fear that "using up" the stone will destroy his physical form and its interaction with his soul in some way, or may even bring about is death.

He has trained extensively in martial arts under master alchemist Izumi Curtis. He is quite skilled in unarmed hand-to-hand combat, and can hold his own in battle with armed opponents and skilled martial artists (though he much prefers to handle situations peacefully). His alchemical abilities allow him to augment his physical fighting skill by adapting the environment to use as a weapon itself, creating battering rams, columns of stone, spikes, and other traps to attack his enemies. (Non-canon: He may begin to adapt and integrate other alchemist's techniques, such as elemental attacks, or explosive abilities into his own style.)

canon history:

Alphonse Elric was born in Resembool in the year 1899. Al initially lived with his brother Edward Elric, his mother Trisha Elric and his father Van Hohenheim. After Van Hohenheim left, Ed and Al began to study alchemy with their father's textbooks. When their mother discovered this she openly encouraged both Ed and Al to develop their talents further. Trisha Elric died from plague a few years after, leaving the boys as orphans. They were raised by their friend and neighbor Pinako Rockbell. During this time they began to plan to resurrect their mother via alchemy.

During a flood they met Izumi Curtis, and after observing her skills in alchemy they convinced her to train them as alchemists. Both boys traveled to Dublith, where they were taught alchemy along with martial arts and survival skills. After 6 months training they returned to Resembool and attempted Human Transmutation in order to revive their mother. The attempt was unsuccessful snd Alphonse lost his whole body in the process. Ed, having lost his left leg as well, gave his right arm to transmute Al's soul into one of his father's suits of vintage armor laying around.

Very shortly afterwards they were visited by Roy Mustang, who recruited Ed as a state alchemist. Alphonse, however, does not seek to became a state alchemist for fears that people will learn of their human transmutation (which is forbidden) and exploit him as a test subject.

Al's last few years have been seriously turbulent. He has gone from being a human boy to becoming trapped in a suit of armor with no physical body, traveling across the land with his brother in hopes of Finding the Philosopher's stone - something that he initially thought had been a myth. He has seen every person that has sought the stone come to ruin, from Cornello to Marcoh to his teacher's teacher, Dante. And his own father.

He has met and tried to help many people, sometimes relating to them even when they are on opposite sides, and always seeking to understand them despite being "the enemy". Al chooses not to become a state Alchemist even though it is revealed that he solved puzzles and passed parts of the examination that his brother Ed did not.

If there's been any theme in Al's life over the last few years, it has been loss. The loss of his parents, even the rediscovery of his father and what his father was, the loss of Maes Hughes, the possible loss of his brother, and the illness of his teacher have all figured prominently.

Throughout the series, his life has been turned upside down, being kidnapped by Greed and later bonding with one of his mercenaries, Martel, before she was murdered inside him. Al has seen people that he trusted turn out to be corrupt and horribly twisted (Shou Tucker), and at the same time he has seen his "enemies" Scar, Lust, exhibit compassionate, questioning qualities.

Al accepts this, mostly, only breaking down at the worst of times, when he believes that he is not real and has been given false memories by his brother.

After Al's armor is transferred into explosive material, Scar transfers all of his incomplete Philosopher's Stone into Al to save his life. As a result, Al became the Philosopher's Stone. Because he houses the Stone in his body, he becomes the primary target of Dante's attempt to cheat death, but not before he becomes a pawn in Shou Tucker's plot to resurrect Nina.

Once captured by the Homunculi for Dante, Al was to be devoured by Gluttony to complete the Stone inside Gluttony's body. But when he saw his brother killed by Envy, Al used the stone's power to restore Edward's body (including his missing limbs) and re-bind his soul to it. This destroys his own body as he used up the whole of the Philosopher's Stone in the transmutations.

Alphonse becomes the Philosopher's Stone and regains full memory of his visit to the Gate. The concept of this is never fully ventured, due to his fear of the possible outcome effects of using the Stone's power. In the final episode of the series, he uses alchemy in order to resurrect his dying brother. Then Edward, using his own body, resurrects Alphonse.

It is just before Edward resurrects Alphonse that he awakens in Anatole, having lost most of the Philosopher's Stone - and some of his memories - in the transmutation attempt.

personality:

Alphonse is a sweet, compassionate boy who can be very trusting, despite the horrible things that have happened in his short 14 years.

He is quiet, introspective, and tries to be understanding, even when he shouldn't be. He is usually patient, but is sometimes pressured by being the one that has to be reasonable and thoughtful and rational.

Having had his psychological growth stunted at the age of ten due to loss of his physical body, Alphonse retains a childlike purity in the face of all his encountered horrors; however, despite his age he is exceptionally mature, mostly due to all that has happened to him weighing heavy on his heart. The concept that people can do terrible things to each other is very foreign to him, and because he is so sensitive, he unwillingly overreacts to this, and can find himself suddenly involved in protecting people. Especially strangers, and even his enemies.

Al is very, very brave, to the point of foolishness. As a companion, he is loyal and steadfast, but as much as he feels obligated to protect his friends, he truly just wants to be protected himself.

He dislikes being reminded of his large size and often becomes melancholy when it inhibits or calls undue attention to him, lamenting that it was not his choice to become so big. As such, he displays a great deal of pleasure when others treat him as a child instead of the hulking brutish adult persona that his appearance gives off.

He feels literally robbed of his childhood, and it is precisely this kind of pressure that can build up and result in overemotional outbursts that leave him embarrassed and regretful.

Al feels desperately alone, disconnected and often afraid. He misses his mother, his brother, his teacher and his friends. He is often too trusting, but tends to give people the benefit of the doubt. Because of his deep sense of loneliness, Al tends to "pick up strays", both of the feline and female variety.

He is polite, and tries to be cheerful, especially for the benefit of others. He is insightful and eloquent. Regarding his own issues, he can often sink into silent depression. Being trapped in this metal body has left him with an emptiness that is indescribable sometimes. He can neither eat nor sleep, or truly feel any physical contact. He misses all three terribly.

Aside from the warmth of physical contact, what Al misses most about having a human body seems to be food. He keeps a journal of all the various foods he will eat upon returning to his body in order to keep his spirits up (a practice encouraged by his brother) and has stated that his fondest wish is to have some of Winry's apple pie.

The inability to sleep, however, doesn't dissuade him from having nightmares. Al occasionally has flashbacks about his mother, as well as to Marta/Martel's death and how she was stabbed while still inside his armor.

Who knows, maybe she's still in there somewhere. The Mist likes to tell him that she is.

He also has waking dreams of Nina.

Al carries the added burden of blaming himself for the failure of his mother's resurrection and the subsequent loss of his brother's limbs.

Plagued with insecurities about his own uncertain existence inside a suit of armor, Al craves the human warmth of his former life in desperate silence, fears that he will never again know closeness and is sometimes overwhelmed by the suspicion that he himself is not human.

Anatole doesn't to him any favors regarding that, either.
