Hybernation or alienation?

I have 2½ weeks left of my 7 week intensive Spanish hell. Then I'll be 11 credits away from my long awaited B.A. Twenty years late. Oh well. I been busy.

Too much to even try to catch up on. Ken (theslack) visited last weekend with his ladyfriend Weda and her son Hawkens. Rick and I took them on the grand tour of metro Detroit, including Greenfield Village, the abandoned train depot, and the frightening abrupt transition from the City of Detroit to the Grosse Pointes. I'd never actually experienced it myself and it's extremely haunting to go from urban neglect to plush, finely manicured lawns in a mere block. As Ken put it, it's like somebody waved a magic wand.

Also, we finally saw Sith with Pete, Day, and the kids. Though better than the last three Star Wars flicks, still rather a letdown. Clunky writing or clunky acting? Not sure which. But especially after re-watching the terrific Argentinian caper Nieve Reinas, Lucas's shortcomings were too blatant for my taste. But at least the double trilogy is done with and the full story has been told. Such that it is.

I'll try not to duck back into hiding. But I've been feeling somewhat caustic of late, so either beware or forgive. Or both. I dunno. I just poke my fingers at these letter things on the keyboard and words appear on my 'puter.

I'm headed to Motor City Pride this Sunday, on the prowl for people to recruit for oral history interviews. Meanwhile, here's another vintage image from Michigan's queer past, from the same picnic as the previous post in mid-May.

Hasta luego.
