Well that was a fun day. :)
I just got back from a lovely day spent with
surrey_sucks. (I would use her name here but I don't know if she wants to keep her real identity anonymous or not.) We hooked up at the Ikea in Coquitlam and chowed down on a cafeteria lunch - I got the same thing as her just cuz it looked so delicious. I forget what it was called, but it was some sort of chicken dish. The non-stop free refills of Swedish pop was nice, too. :D
Anyway, after we fed ourselves - neither of us had really eaten that day, and it was already 1:30 - we got down to playing a game of Travel Scrabble. For the grande majority of the game - and she'll vouch for me - I was absolutely rocking the socks. The J, Q, X, and Z all fell into my lap, any each time I was able to double or triple those letters or words - and honestly, close to the end, I was running away with the game with nearly a 100 point lead!
Put bluntly, this was the luckiest, but best game of Scrabble I had played to date.
Then she comes out of NOWHERE and throws down all seven tiles (including a blank) to narrow the gap to just 10 points. It may have just been the non-stop pop wreaking havoc with my system, but after seeing that, I nearly wet myself.
A couple turns later, I tried to pull away with a fake word (REW) but she called me on it, I lost, she finished her tiles, and thereby won the game, after all is said and done, by a score of 323 to 306, or something like that. She's kept the board the way it was since, so I bet a pic of this will show up on her journal in the next day or so, when she's ready to gloat online to everyone. :p
After this horrible defeat, I needed a walk around Ikea to cool off - and she accompanied me, of course.
By the way, J, since it was brought up, I did some research and found out this about Ikea's name:
The company name is a composite of the first letters in his name and the names of the property and the village in which he grew up: Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd.
During our excursion through the store, we stopped many times to stare and wonder at one of these babies:
BILLY. FREAKING. BOOKCASE.
Post-Ikea, we retired to her house where I got to meet her two guinea pigs (Callie and Timmy...yes, my namesake!), a pair of cats (Simon the nice and...well I forget the name of the evil one), and her roomie/buddy/bf(?) Dave. It was rather nice. And she was sweet enough to lend me a copy of
The Ethical Slut - something that she also highly recommended for
bunnychicken; looks to be an interesting and enlightening read, to say the least.
Anyway, it was a lovely day, and it was over too quickly. I hope to do it again and quite soon. :)
