Yesterday on the Junk job was a decent day, in all honesty. The first 8 hours or so were great, in fact - six jobs, all done in 30 minutes or less each - excellent stuff. But then the last job of the day was this nasty-ass piece of business in Tsawwassen, where we had a dilapidated backyard full of absolute CRAP that needed cleaning out. Two trucks were necessary, and it took us about three hours to do it all. And to think, it was a last-minute add-on to our day.
But then at the end of the day, just as we were loading the final pieces into the truck, I slipped in a muddy patch our metal ramp - the yard was FILTHY so mud was being tracked everywhere - and I fell right off, nailing my left thigh on the way down. I was in immense pain - but I was lucky that I still had the brainpower to throw away what I was holding over my head so it didn't clobber me on the way down as well.
The pain was epic. I was pacing in the front yard for a good ten minutes trying to walk it off, but nothing was working. However, I just thought it was a normal giant bruise in the making and didn't really do anything else but cope with it.
Hours later - about three hours later to be exact, after I'd been icing it all evening - I went into shock. I finally got my first look at the bruising coming to the surface, and the hardening of various muscles underneath. The bruise is probably as big as the palm of my hand, and it puffed up into the shape and size of a cucumber along the trail of where the ramp actually scraped me. A quick and frantic call to Kat later, I was off to Delta Hospital to get it looked at, just to make sure that this massive hematoma wasn't going to turn into something even nastier.
3 hours later, I got looked at for, say, less than five minutes - but I came out of there with some Tylenol 3 and a prescription for more. Sweet.
I was an utter beast last night on the phone but that's just because of the immense pain - and going into shock like that (which had never happened to my recollection) made me very impatient. Thank you, my dear sweet Katerina, for helping me through all that, and for calling the hopistal to check up on me, and for just loving me. It really did touch me.
PS - FELIZ CUMPLEANOS, KATIA! I wrote you an e-mail yesterday but I know you changed your addresses a few months back so I honestly don't know if it went through. :p
