Treasure, Pain, Movies, and Thieves, oh my!

I meant to make a lot of little posts lately, but I got lazy, so here we go - all the highlights and lowlights of my last few days:

THE WUSS IS BACK
On Saturday morning I was back working at 1-800-GOT-JUNK, but just 2 hours in, picking up a box spring that weighed no more than 10 pounds, I somehow twisted my back in just such a way that my back gave out and I could barely move the rest of the day. In fact, I still can't move without some amount of pain.

I GOT BOOTY
If Kat was back in town I could say I got even better booty, but alas, I just had to settle for the pirate kind. While doing the other junk job on Saturday, we cleaned out an apartment in Richmond - lots of shelves, dressers, etc - the majority of which that we were able to deposit at a local Salvation Army. I liked that, because it saves on our dumping charges - which are increasingly high due to the garbage strike in Vancouver right now - and because we were able to give them to charity. It's good times. The best part, though, was that in the one room we were clearing out, we were asked to dispose of a tupperware container full of coins. Canadian coins, too. I even double-checked to make sure that our customer didn't want it, and she said that it was OK. Sweet. We saved it until the end of the day - and when Brian and I split it up - taking up over an hour to do, might I add - it turned out that we each scored about $70 in not gold and silver but nickel and copper.

NICKEL AND COPPER! Them's be what pirates be all about, arrrrr!

NOW IN 2D!!!
I managed to see the Simpsons Movie this weekend, too. I quite enjoyed it, actually. I would have done it differently though - first and foremost, it was too short. Sure, a 77 minute movie is nearly 4 times as long as a regular Simpsons storyline, but considering that nearly 2 hours of completed material was cut for the movie, I think that whatever they had, it could've been expanded into a fuller movie. I realize that the movie was supposed to focus on the family itself, but besides that, the only townsfolk that had notable roles were the Flanderseseses. I know that all the leftover footage will be on the DVD, but man - 77 minutes? Pixar is on to something by having movies that are 100 mins plus - Finding Nemo, the Incredibles, Cars, and Ratatouille were all that long. Considering how people would go to the Simpsons Movie just because it's the Simpsons and most of us grew up with the show, I know more people would've liked that. I'd be more inclined to rewatch it if it were longer.

Oh, Plopper (aka, "Spider-Pig") is awesome. I'm glad he'll be a regular on the series.

Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig
Does whatever a Spider-Pig does.
Can he swing from a web?
No he can't, he's a pig.
Look out!
Here comes the Spider-Pig!!!

I GUESS I'M NOT BATMAN, AFTER ALL
*SIGH* It turns out I'm not Batman after all. I mean, if I were, I would've leapt the counter and taken down the bank robber that held up one of the other tellers today. The crazy thing is that besides the one teller that he hit, I was the only one that noticed - but I had to play cool until he'd left. It was good cuz apparently, according to his note, he had a 9mm handgun in his possession.

At risk of putting my bank's security at risk, I can't say much more than that. Part of me - a big part, in fact - wishes it was me. I'd be shaken, sure, and I'd want my little hero inside to kick some ass, but I know I'd be able to do it. In the bank scenario, robberies are actually more common than you'd think - and 99% of the time they're very calm, and most people wouldn't know it had happened until minutes afterwards. That, and there are usually at least 10 other people in the bank at any point; had this happened at Shell, at 10pm (rather than noon) it would be a lot scarier. You're alone a lot more at a gas station than at a busy bank.

I'm just proud of myself for giving a very good description of the events that no one else noticed. Yay me. Just hit me up next time. I'll be sure to take you down - it wouldn't be immediately but I'd find a way to get him caught, I swear. I've already concocted some ideas right now; I just wonder if I'd have a clear enough mind to execute them in the future if such a thing happened.

We had a new girl start working at our branch today, too. What a lovely day and lovely way to start, eh?
