Surge Report

So in a few weeks, General Petraeus is going to come back from Iraq with a report on how the surge is going. All reports that have been coming out so far have shown that it is working. Casualties are down. Even the NY Times wrote a piece on how this war was still winnable and that things were looking up. Some of the Democrats in the Nancy Pelosi run Congress (with a record low 18% approval rating) are even saying that the surge is working, and seemingly going against the party. Recent polls have shown that support for the war and for Bush, though still pretty low, are also on the rise. All of this should be taken as good news. Whether or not you support the war this surge has appeared to help dramatically and as a result a lot of soldiers are alive as a result, which is something everyone should be happy about. Unfortunately, there are a group of people who are never going to admit that things that are involved with President Bush could ever go well. A poorly done report was done on CNN last week showing clearly skewed polls that said over 50% of Americans believed that the report that is going to come from the White House is going to be biased towards the war, although that clearly does not seem to be the case. But nonetheless, one has to wonder if this was part of the Democrat’s plan all along. In the official surge act, or the act that allowed the surge to happen (which was created by the Democratic Congress) stated that, by law, the official report on the surge has to come from the White House. So isn’t it possible that Congress anticipated that should the surge go well, due to the popularity (or lack thereof) for the President, as well as the media spinning such issues as the Karl Rove incident and the justifications for the war itself, that the media could spin the report as biased because it was coming from the same White House with record low approval ratings and supposed scandals? Then of course, should the surge go poorly as they predicted, the President was then put into the situation where he would either have to lie or tell the American people that the surge and the war was not going well all but forcing him to finally give in and withdraw the troops. Fortunately, this does not seem to be the case as stated earlier with the polls, but it’s something think about…it's just too bad that the Iraqi Government is basically useless.
