*This whole situation infuriates me so I thought I would share my thoughts.*

If you haven’t heard or have been living in a rock (or some other sort of habitable abode in which connection with the outside world is limited or non-existent), last week Don Imus made a comment on his radio show about the Rutgers’ women’s basketball team, during which he called them “nappy-headed hoes” amongst other things. Somehow in all of this his producer has somehow avoided any criticism, but if you listen to the broadcast you can hear him putting in his two-cents every so often, but I digress. Now, in case you also don’t know, Don Imus is a white man, and the Rutgers team (and their coach) are predominantly black *gasp*. So as predicted, the “Reverend” Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been hitting the airwaves, demanding that Imus be fired, crucified, and his body then burned.

Now, before I get into anything else, let’s first establish that these comments were obviously not only stupid, but could be (and were) hurtful. Being such a “public” media figure (I put public in quotes because I’d never heard of him till now, but supposedly a lot of people listen to his show), Imus should have known better than the make such a moronic comment given the recent comments of Mel Gibson and Kramer. I think it is somewhat to be commended that unlike these two, Imus didn’t try to hide behind alcoholism or anything else and simply said he did it to be funny. That said, the Rutgers’ women’s team deserved an apology, his comments were inappropriate and unprovoked, and they got one. The team and them alone are the only people he should have apologized to though. And even these girls are making a circus out of it. They had to call a press conference to comment on what Don Imus said, which is insane! It’s absolutely ridiculous. If I was a woman, and I was on this team and Don Imus called me a nappy-headed hoe, I can think of two words that would have been my response, and I wouldn’t need a nationally televised press conference to say it. Ignoring the fact that this is women’s college basketball and thus no one watches them (the only thing on tv that is watched less is the WNBA), the Rutgers team LOST the Finals game. So can someone them explain to me what moment of “grace” has been stolen from them? I would think that when Tennessee destroyed them in the second half that would pretty much kill any sort of “grace” they might have had. So congrats to these girls though, you finished second in a sport no one cares about, and that’s to be commended. To be honest, they should be thanking Don Imus because they are getting more press for LOSING the National Title game than Tennessee is getting for winning it. I do hope though, that since we are airing EVERYTHING, can we please see Don Imus and the team meet cause that is going to AKWARD. I can see it now, “So…I’m a hoe?” Good luck with that Don, good luck with that.

And can Jesse and Al please cut this bull shit that this has something to do with women in addition to race. I would buy that a little more if Jesse and Al would come out when EVERY SINGLE RAPPER comes out and calls women bitches, hoes, whores, sluts, skanks, etc. The stuff that these "artists" say is 1,000 times worse than what Imus said and yet they make millions every year of this shit they call music without a word said. If there's any doubt that this isn't about political gain, it should end here.

The amazing thing about this whole parade that happens in these “racist” situations is the fact that once ol’ Al and Jesse get involved, it seems that the public either (a), ceases to care, or (b), sympathizes with the alleged “racist.” One example of this (at least for me) is Hurricane Katrina. When it happened everyone felt horrible, people were rushing to help, and at the same time people were being critical of the government because of it’s response, or lack thereof; and rightfully so. However, then we had Kanye West, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and all these “leaders” of the African American community trying to tell us that the government did this because the population of New Orleans was mostly made up of African Americans. Many believed that the poor government response was racially motivated (“George Bush doesn’t care about black people”). However, when news came out about mayor Ray Nagin’s mishandling of the situation came out not much was said, once again I digress. It was about that time, at least for me, that I ceased to care. It was no longer about people losing their homes, family members, and so on, it was about these “leaders” pushing their political agenda and trying to make Americans somehow feel guilty because a category five hurricane destroyed arguably the most vulnerable city in America. It could be argued that the same thing is being done now. It doesn’t seem a whole lot is being said about the victim here, the Rutgers’ team, and instead about how America is still racist. It simply amazes me how these two guys are able to work so strongly against the very thing that they are trying to achieve. I wish more and more African Americans would speak out against Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, because I know he doesn’t speak for all African Americans. A recent episode of South Park can best sum this up;
- “My dad apologized to Jesse Jackson so everything I ok now.
- “Jesse Jackson is not the king of black people!”
- “He told my dad he was…”

The thing that tops it off for me is the Duke rape case. From the beginning this was a racial issue and from the beginning, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been knee deep in it, as they were so sure that this stripper was raped. And yet yesterday, all charges were dropped and DA Mike Nifong is in deep sh*t (as he should be). In addition, there are now three men who were accused of a crime without any evidence and basically have their lives ruined because of the damage it has done to their reputation. And instead of analyzing the evidence like rational human beings, Nifong, Sharpton, and Jackson continued to drag these guys through the mud and now that all is said and done that’s just supposed to be it. How is it that every time Jackson and Sharpton weasel their way out. How come Don Imus has to apologize; no, strike that. How come Don Imus and all these people have to kiss Jackson/Sharpton’s ass whenever they say something “racist,” but when these two douche bags screw up (Duke, Tawana Brawley case) they somehow get out as if nothing has happened and they were in the right the entire time somehow, whether or not the evidence shows it. It’s funny too, that these two are somehow “reverends.” To be honest, these two make Ted Haggard look like Billy Graham. One thing that got me throughout this whole story was how the media/America was shocked that a group of college guys would somehow order a stripper, as if college students are somehow above ordering strippers. That’s not to say that I’ve done it, but it’s COLLEGE. Here’s a shocking development…most college students drink beer.

And finally, what about the hoes of American society? We’ve heard the outrage over Imus’s derogatory comments towards women, and since these particular women were African-American the comments were then racist, and since he is a white man making a comment that can be considered “racist” he is inherently a racist. And that’s all fine and dandy. But where are the people standing up for the actual hoes of America? Prostitution is alive in America and these women are people too. I’ve watched Cops and various other cable programming in which hoes have been showed (or portrayed) and they are not all “nappy-haired,” and in this particular case they are not all black either. I think the real victims here are the hoes.

*Update*: So Imus has just been fired by CBS, after MSNBC dropped him and everyone has once again folded to the hypocrite Al Sharpton. Of course, had Imus been black, Sharpton would have said nothing, if Imus was black and the players were white, Sharpton would have said nothing. And speaking earlier of using stuff like this for political gain, Hillary Clinton just announced that she is going to visit Rutgers, although according to recent polls it is going to take A LOT more than a visit to Rutgers to help her get anywhere (thank God). I wonder if she'll change her accent for this visit too. Makes sense though for Hillary Clinton to go talk to women about problems, seeing as how she's married to Slick Willy. Maybe she'll go to Duke next?...no likely. I sincerely hope that XM or Sirius picks up his show, in which he would make much more than he did at CBS. Take note that all of these individual involved (even Imus though I guess he doesn't really count) are liberal. I really hate to point fingers and make it a political thing, but I am sick of the words "republican" and "racist" somehow being synonymous with one another. Liberals constantly use this policy of victimization with minorities. Prime example, the headline on CNN.com right now says "CBS axes Imus over racial slur," whereas Fox says he was fired because of "offensive comments." A racial slur is defined as "a derogatory or disrespectful nickname for a racial group, used without restraint." So if someone can point out where race is involved in "nappy headed hoe" please point it out to me. Ironically, one could argue that CNN is racist by implying that "nappy headed hoe" is a "nickname" for black women...think about it. I'm sorry, but the double standard in this country absolutely disgusts me.
