Tim brought home a Critical Thinking worksheet this evening, which really got us thinking...
Mr Postman
"Hello Mr Postman," says Lili. The postman smiles at her.
"Hello Lili," he says. "Do you want to post that letter?"
"Yes," she replies. "I want to send this letter to my cousin who lives in West Malaysia."
The postman tells her that he will put it in his bag. It has many other letters in it.The bag of letters has to be taken to the post office where the letters will be sorted out.
1. What kind of a girl is Lili?
She is ______________________________
2. Why must the letters be sorted out in the post office?
They must be sorted out because______________________________________
While we know that there are really no right or wrong answers, but one shouldn't be too way out too right?
Tim definitely needed help for this. He wrote "She is a post girl" as the answer for question 1! He just wasn't "thinking" at all, which got me worried. He couldn't answer q2 and asked for help.
Finally, after talking to a few of us, his answers to the questions were:
1. She is a young girl who has a cousin in West Malaysia. (I didn't think this was quite right as it doesn't really tell what "kind" of girl Lili is. I thought that "She is a friendly girl" was more appropriate, as Lili was friendly since she talked to the postman).
2. They must be sorted out because there are many letters which must be sent to many countries. (We discussed this and thought this was quite appropriate).
What do you think? Pls let me know if you have better answers, so that we can do better next time!
