(no subject)
-jack and i went to see robert plant (ex-led zeppelin frontman/singer) in oakland last night. it was awesome--his voice sounds exactly the same, despite 30+ years of that insane wailing thing he does. i'm surprised he even has a voice left. they did a few led zeppelin songs (black dog, when the levee breaks, no quarter, some others), which i had problems getting my head around because it really feels like that should have stayed in the 70's. i kept thinking about that kid in almost famous who's like 'mr. jimmy page and mr. robert plant signed my shirt!'... it feels like if something is in almost famous, it should be dead by now. very surreal. anyway, he's amazing. the man can dance.
-a week or so ago we drove up to golden gate park and went to the conservatory of flowers, which is huge and seems a little bit out-of-place in the middle of san francisco. one of the rooms was a cloud forest, and it was just like the atherton tablelands in queensland, with the same smells and flowers and the temperature. the only things missing were certain bird and insect noises. it made me miss australia (a lot of things seem to, i know i write about this a lot, i'm sorry). i miss the trees and the eeriness, i want to go back there before it becomes overpopulated and the desert gets paved away. i want the entire central region of australia and the blue mountains to become national or international preserves.
-i went to ocean beach in a very antisocial mood and it was beautiful because everything was white and foggy and the waves were enormous. for some reason i wanted to swim out really ridiculously far where there was just water and sea creatures and depth and no people, like the kid in life of pi. but then i thought about the middle of the pacific, and night, and i remembered that i wouldn't last a day because i would be eaten by sharks or scare myself to death because of the dark. oh well.
-i really miss christine, chase, kat, and pierre, who is in seville and then paris until august 17th, which is unfortunately when i'm leaving for ireland. oh yeah, by the way, i'm going to ireland. kelly's moving there for a year and we're going to drop her off and help her move, i am SO excited.
-i finally got an iPod, but what i need now is something to put it in because i know i'm going to drop it. i got a new phone a few weeks ago and it already has a crack in it. i am truly the least graceful person i know.
