rain forests
I am all worried about the rain forests. The Reptile Man came to our school this week, with lots of animals to see, and talked to us about the rain forests being destroyed. It made me really, really sad. I wanted to know why people were cutting down the rain forests. She explained that people cut down the trees to make paper or firewood, so that they could use the land to grow cows instead. And it takes lots more land to grow cows than plants, so they need a lot of space. I wanted to know why they liked cows more than the animals in the rain forest, and she said that it's because people like to eat cows more than rain forest animals. So I asked why they didn't just cut down the parts of the rain forest that had animals that they knew about already, and medicines that they know about already, instead of cutting down all the rain forest, and destroying all of the animals and all of the medicines.
Did I mention that it made me really, really sad? Mommy told me that we try to do what we can, by not eating cows, and reusing paper to color on instead of getting a new clean sheet, and not using paper towels for everything. But I still don't understand why everyone else isn't doing these things, and nothing Mommy said about that made any sense to me. So I still get sad about it.
