I just finished watching Demolition Man. I think my reasoning was, "Oh, this won't require much thought while I'm folding laundry." I've been morbidly curious about the movie for years, as it's famous for claiming that Taco Bell will win the franchise wars. As a movie, it hits all the key marks for 90's action campiness. Incessant gunfire that misses everybody, amusing running gags, and the classic sequence of a man running away from a giant explosion. As a commentary on the struggle of security versus freedom, it might actually make you think for a second if you let it. Almost.
That is, I'm still putting off writing my recap of my fantastic vacation.
I went to Men's Wearhouse today looking for an overcoat. "What?", you might say, "It's the middle of summer!" Yes, but like I'll have a lot of time in the fall to shop for a new coat. Thanks to spending so much money on the suits last spring, I have a $50 coupon. With preface aside, I'm amused that the sticker shock of a $300 coat has passed. That is, I expect to pay so much. But then I look at the construction of said coats. If I had the money and actually wore suits with them, they'd look nice. But for daily winterwear, it's simply not worth it.
And then there's Macy's getting away with selling a hoodie for $100. Look, I can see spending money on a nice suit or coat, but one hundred fucking dollars for a hoodie? Are you shitting me? I wonder if Old Navy will have anything up my alley once the weather gets colder. I did like their Summer Collection™, after all.
See, I love my leather jacket, but I want to look a little classier. Just a little. In this battle of sturdy and warm, or fragile and cold, I favor sturdy and warm.
I need to get my license renewed by the end of September. As much as I love my red hair, I'll probably cut it below the red length in a week or two. Anytime someone looks at my license, I get asked, "Oh, when did you cut your hair?" Do you have any idea how annoying that is? Right, so you can fathom how annoying it would be to be asked something about my red hair. I may even wear a nice shirt, too. (Not saying the pink shirt I have in my current license is bad.)
I placed my order for a new laptop. Small, red, and under 500. I still haven't named her yet. Ruby Red? Hector HP? (Sound it out.) Annie Eleven-Inch? I technically didn't need a laptop, but don't feel like relying on lab computers if I have to spend extended periods on campus. Moreover, Candi recently got a printer. So, I can print at her house if I need to. We have her old laptop floating around, but it's a little large and hefty to be lugging around.
My dad's computer is having issues. I cracked it open to inspect. I can NOT fathom how a modern computer can be issued with a 180W power supply. Kids, this is why you don't get a dell. Power is feeding from the power supply, so it may not be the power supply. I'd have to test out a functioning power supply to know. Perhaps if I'm feeling motivated, I'll use Roxanne's old power supply to see whether the motherboard will run.
Cue him saying he wants a MacBook Air. I just kind of smile and nod. He's earned his right to want his AppleBling. Yes, I'm one of those that regard Apple-lovers as a fringe population that's been brainwashed. Whatever, I suppose I hump AMD just the same way.
So my boss taught me how to do the weekly paperwork. Which is disturbingly simple. This means I now know everything an assistant manager can do. It's nice to feel important. Boss Lady's said she would have promoted me if I could work the 50 hours a week, but we know I'm focused on school. I silently remember that if I see a better job, I'll take it.
I told Sam (our former assistant manager) that I didn't want his job. (Though, in a bit of irony, I pretty much do it now.) Seriously, 50 hours a week? I know his salary, it's enough to live on, but it's nothing impressive at all in the slightest. This is my motivation to keep pushing forward.
Last fall was pretty stressful, but I found a way to push forward. This fall, I'm taking 14 credits at Montclair, and intend to work 30 hours a week. I'll cut my hours if I need to, but I'd prefer not to be worried about money. Actually, I'd really prefer to get a part-time job on campus, but my big priority is staying focused.
