There's nothing quite like getting away from it all, even if it is just a few short hundred kilometres down the road. That said, the road to Strahan is one of danger and excitement(if you go for that kind of thing). It takes between four and five hours to cover the three hundred kilometres, if you're sticking to the speed limit, which I certainly was in the twitchy Subaru I was driving. Anyway, you know what they say about pictures, so here's 8000 of the easiest words I've ever written.
Tarraleah and Tungatinah power stations keeping up the flow into the Nive River.
Our room. Not all of it, you prawn. We requested a rollaway for Charlotte and wound up with a whole single bed.
The view from the deck. This was only my second time to Strahan, and I'm surprised the weather likes me that much.
Down at the waterfront, looking up at the hotel.
Jurassic Car Park.
The entrance to Macquarie Harbour, known as Hells Gate. Very shallow; would not like to attempt in high wind.
Like being on Mars, but not so red, and with oxygen and campervans.
The Lyell Highway is a cruel mistress.
And that was our not-so-dirty weekend.
