Romans 10
Tim Difato
The United States was shaped around the beliefs and ideas of the Ten Commandments. Through the courage and sacrifice of others, we are able to live in the greatest country of all. The freedom that these men fought for was steeped in the freedom of the ten commandments. We are able to say what we want, be who we want, and believe what we want, within reasonable limits. Because of the vision and passion of our forefathers, we are able to live a life of endless possibilities, unimaginable wealth, and uncharted fortune. With this freedom, we can have any job, any faith, any life. But when our freedom impinges on others, then we are stripping them of their ability to be free.
In the next ten years, we will map out our entire life and the future of the world. We will be setting the floorboards for a mansion. We are the generation and the provision for a better world. So start thinking, who am I, What will I do and how can I plan my future for a greater world.
Some plan to be chemists others doctors, and technicians. Some have high hopes of inventing a revolutionary way to stop pollution, while others hope to cure cancer. But is that really what defines a meaningful life? God put everyone of us here with gifts to do his will, preach his word and love and exalt him. Our lives are measured by the quality of the gifts that we receive and how we use them for the betterment of ourselves and the world we live in. In the same sense, we all have natural talents, and every talent is necessary to build a better world, we could be farmers or tailors, craftsmen, plumbers etc. You have to say, if I can bring and offer excellence to my job, my family, my country and my faith, then I have done something great in my life.
As we go through life making these decisions, we have to remember in what we believe as our faith and act morally right. Making these decision to which path you will follow will take much thinking and pondering because this is your life but, carrying out your commitment is even more challenging. Today poverty, unemployment teen pregnancy, abortion, drug usage and divorce are substantially rising. People are living their lives with reckless abandon; they have one thing in mind, themselves. We all might fall into these ignorant traps of life, but it is how we recover in which we will be seen as a great Christian. So when is the time for each of us to begin to think about our responsibility to ourselves and the world?
We have to remember that our country was built upon the ten commandments of God and we need to learn what it means to be a Christ follower, Christian. Some feel there are two types of Christian passive and active. The majority of Christians today are passive in their daily approach to how they live their lives for Christ. Most Christians live two lives and its always dangerous to have double standards because you can sway to either side depending how you feel, good or bad. How can they only give the lord a tithe of their life, the standard 10%. The lord has a perfect plan for every single person, and we need to have faith that he will provide for us.
Active Christians give their lives to the lord and consistently make a conscious effort to do what is morally right. They resolve to keep God in the center of their plans, dreams, and aspirations. They try to help others, whether it be their attitude on a daily basis, or a spur of the moment leading from the Holy Spirit. But if you think about it and read God’s word, there really is no such thing as a passive Christian. When you confess with your mouth and believe the message of Jesus totally, then you give and surrender your life to him. When you are baptized you are born again, you are a new man, a man of the Lord. We need to look at the world through the lenses of the Gospel and the eyes of God. The classic, what would Jesus do? Why be a statistic of an alcoholic, or have an abortion, why further and raise the divorce percent. Why don’t we better our way of life, our standard of living? Why don’t we live for a greater purpose?
Once this year is over and we leave our School, we have to realize that its not just the end of high school, or the start of summer, but the beginning of our true walk with Christ and as long as we are with him hand in hand, we will never fall. So you could go out and party and drink, smoke and do every demoralizing sinful act with only one person in mind or you could better your family, country, life and ultimately find what really completes you.
“ That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. ”- Romans 10:9&10
