So I did the poker show yesterday, and I have to say that it was a lot of fun. The $125 cash infusion was quite soothing after losing use of my wallet and ATM card.
It's not often that I can say I played a perfect game of poker (I'm no Phil Helmuth), but I can say I did on that night. So of course I lost. I got one massive bluff called by a person on Tilt who didn't have anything to gain by calling me (didn't even have a pair or piece of the board) which put me with a dimunitive chip stack.
I rallied back a bit by going all in with pocket 3's, and was called by pocket 2's. The girl who called me caught her third two on the turn. I then caught my third three on the river.
The very next hand, I ended up flopping two pair and went all in again. I was called by two people, and if I won I would have the chip lead. The girl who nearly sucked out on me last time, did so again by catching runner/runner spades to complete her flush.
Still, I was paid the same way either way, so no bitterness on that one. Annie Duke even complimented me on my gameplay.
Of course my bad run of luck continued when I tried to leave and discovered that the valet's locked my car keys in my car. At first they didn't want to accept responsibility and said that I would have to call a locksmith to free up my car. I got the stage manager over, and he sorted things out quickly. Still, I was delayed an extra half hour getting home over that.
All this bad luck must mean that something good is coming down the pipeline for me. It's like I have to endure so much crap before something really fantastic happens. Who knows, maybe I'll end up selling a script or getting an agent at the Pitch XChange this weekend. That'll be a karmic balance.
