I had my final today. We had to make a video between 3 and 5 minutes long. Before I explain mine I really want to express the depth some of my classmates went for this project. one Student made a documentary about her brother dying from cancer as a child. The video was 12 minutes long, (beyond what was maximum, but we watched it anyway) it just kept us interested. She shared this intimate piece of her life and cried as the video played. I happened to be sitting next to her and was very touched. It was very deep and I was very impressed. I could never share myself on that kind of emotional level. A lot of people would like it if I expressed more about my losses, but I can bring myself to that level. I doubt I ever will. Other videos were cute music videos that were weird or silly. One student used a split screen and actually had himself as every member of the band which was just awesome. Another video was a child terrorizing a neighborhood with a climax of him killing a baby. It's just so much that were put into these projects that they make me realize there are so many ways to apply my own creativity.
My Video was simple, a plain music video. I originally wanted to do red stars by Birthday Massacre, but Nikki got me to go with horror show instead. The video was simple, I have two areas, one of a band playing rock band instruments in a corner of the apartment and of them playing around in the apartment hallway. Originally this was shot around 10pm to midnight so outside shots would not have been an easy choice for shooting. After I completed my editing I tested the video on my family to get some insight on my editing or in case I missed something. They loved it, my mother was convinced they were a real band which still cracks me up. My class absolutely loved it. They had so many positive comments and they simply loved the directions I took with the footage, the costumes, the song, and the fact the people in the video looked like they were genuinely having fun. I think I will likely get an A in this class, but I will humbly settle for a B, though anything less and his house may find itself on fire :p.
I promised I wouldn't post the video anywhere online. They haven't seen the finished video yet, so I will likely invite them over soon to see it and get their blessing on posting it. I'd love to have it as part of my digital portfolio. Still, It makes me want to get a Mac with the the software to make this a nice new little hobby.
