I had two used tires put on my camaro (95 AT 3.4L 170k mi). 225/60 R16s vs what I was hoping for, stock 235/55 R16s. Evidently it works like bra sizes, and if you change one size it alters the other. So those two tires actually sit at about the same height so they should play ball well together. The previous tires 235/60s were too big for front tires and as a result rubbed inside the fender wells on turns and ate the sides of the tires smooth. I started noticing lately my car was strongly pulling to the right, but I didnt have any high-speed front end wobble. I had an alignment last year and he said it was off by just a little.This seems to have resolved the pulling by in large. Also, having good tread in the back tires really gives my car a bit more juice from a deadstop. Should help me this winter for sure.
I replaced the o2 sensors. I don't know what the factory ones were, assuming mine had factory originals. They weren't marked as far as I can tell with any brand name. The one on the drivers side came out easy as there was more room to work. The EGR and alternator got in the way on the passenger side and it was considerably more time consuming. A short extension wouldve seriously helped me here, Im going to have to pick up one, the 4"/5" ones I have are too long a lot of times. I couldn't get a pipe on the breaker bar, and used a 22mm / 7/8" open end wrench. Ultimately it didn't take too much to get them broke loose, they turned right out after the initial blow (I think an angel turned the passenger side one). I replaced them with NGKs. These aren't heated o2 sensors on mine. I broke both snap clips trying to get the old o2 sensor plugs out of the socket. Old plastic I guess. These ngks included some copper thread sealant or whatever already on the sensor threads. Installing wasn't difficult at all.
Car started up the same, but the idle was a much more steady, and as I drove I noticed the car was a lot more quiet. All i heard was my rear end rattle now and again, my hatch rattle, my tire wobble (tire guy said i needed to wear them in a little), alternator wine (need to fix that sometime), and my friggin cracked dash (which began to drive me insane). Ive never noticed the dash rattle before, so it must have really quieted my car down a bit. The car had a good bit more initial pep; when you gave it a little bit of gas (and yes, just a little) it was much more responsive. I made it up my steep gravel driveway in pretty short order without ever having to give my car an extra squeeze of gas. Again, the idle was much more consistent and the car was a lot more quiet. The old plugs showed typical wear, kinda black at the base and red/white at the tip I guess you could say.
