Naturally, when Sam first showed up on the comm, Ten was a little confused. After figuring out that he definitely was NOT the Master, Ten's become more interested in Sam himself. As a person, he finds Sam a good bit of fun, and if circumstances were different, Ten would probably consider Sam as possible companion material, since he seems a wee bit more intelligent and savvy than a lot of the humans out there (and has shown that he can at least adapt to different time zones already.)

He can sympathize with Sam's position - being stuck in a time where the ideals are much different, even less tolerant, than his own. Sam's position itself interests him - he's quite interested in whether Sam's actually in 1973, or whether there's something else going on here (although after meeting Gene Hunt, he's more than sure that Sam's stuck in 1973 somehow.

He was more than a little impressed to hear that Sam had watched him on TV in his world, and the way that he acted a bit starstruck over actually meeting him... well, it didn't hurt Ten's opinion of him, shall we say. :D

Eee, it excites my Sam!muse so much to hear that the Doctor would consider him as a companion. Gods, he is a fanboy.
