Story Time

It was one of the last days in the dorm. It was late. Forrest was still out. I had just gotten in and decided to take a shower. I gather my things and head to the bathroom. As I walk through the hallway, Forrest and Bryan arrive at the opposite end, to no surprise, drunk. We exchange a few words and I enter the bathroom.

I put my things down and enter the corner shower, my shower. The water feels good. I am relaxed, ignorantly unsuspecting.

I hear foot steps, shuffling, though I don’t recall hearing the bathroom door open. I see shadows outside my shower. Instantly, I am aware of what is happening: operation towel jack.

I pull back the shower curtain and peek out. It’s too late. Forrest charges out of the bathroom, towel in hand, trying to contain his laughter.

Under my breath: Fuck.

I stand and stare stupidly for a moment, debating my choice of action. I could run out and chase after him. I could stay in here and yell at him. I do have my key still, I just need to get back to my room. I need something to cover. My hand? Paper towels? Toilet paper? No. They want a reaction out of me. No. They want me to be bothered by it. Nope, I wasn’t going to give them that satisfaction. I turn back towards the running water and decide, screw them, I’m gonna finish my shower.

I continue washing up. Moments later: Do you blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah? Forrest yells from the bathroom door.

I move my head out of the water: What?

Do you want blah blah blah Bell?

What?

Do you want anything from Taco Bell?

Just to make him yell it again: What?

Do. You. Want. Anything. From. Taco. Bell?

Calmly, I yell back: My towel would be nice.

He clarifies: From Taco Bell.

Towel would be nice. I stand my ground.

Taco Bell.

Towel.

I hear the door close and I continue with my shower.

Forrest comes back in and hangs my towel over a shower stall.

Here you go big guy.

Thanks.

He leaves and I finish up showering. I take my towel and dry off. I gather my things and exit the bathroom. Forrest and Bryan are still hanging out in the hallway. I look at them smile and shake my head as I turn the other way and walk back to my room. I had won.
