Tuesday got off to a hectic start. I woke up at around 2:10 pm, which meant that I was supposed to have been at work 10 minutes before I opened my eyes. I wasn't too worried. I don't put the highest priority on attendance there. It's probably some subconscious desire to avoid getting screamed at by Joe.
Tuesday was Julie's birthday. Julie is my now 19 year old sister that resides in Tampa and attends the University of South Florida. I wrote her a note and drew her a little cartoon on a birthday card, then colored it and sent it off with my parents to Tampa in an envelope with 25 dollars enclosed. My mom assured me that she'd rather have the money than a present, and since I hadn't already gotten her one, I had to agree.
I didn't know that the primaries were Tuesday until I heard my parents talking about them while I was getting ready for work. Fortunately, I was already familiar with the important races. I finished getting ready and stopped by my precinct to cast my ballot and collect my "I Voted" sticker.
I headed for work and called to let them know I was on my way as I was getting onto the 408, at which point they told me to take the rest of the day off. I called up Kristen to see if she wanted to hang out, but she couldn't. Since I was already on the 408 I swung by Logan's to see what he was up to, but he wasn't there. On the way back to my house I stopped by the cemetery my great-grandparents are buried in to make sure their graves weren't damaged in Hurricane Charlie.
On my way there, I called the Philips Phile on 104.1 FM, and talked about the damage to the cemetery. It was my first time calling, and if you know me, you know how much I admire Jim Philips. The conversation went pretty smoothly. By the time Jim got to my line I was panting from the heat and exertion of trekking through the cemetery searching for the graves. After detailing the damage, the difficulty I was having finding their graves due to the changed landscape, and what the work crew in the cemetery was doing, he said, "With all respect to your grandparents, who's complaining?" I agreed, but added, "If I were Mr. O'Brien's relatives and saw his headstone smashed by a fallen tree, I'd be pretty upset." He said, "We'll get someone down there." My call even spawned a conversation about death, so I was glad to have contributed something useful to the show.
It took me over two hours to find the graves I was searching for. The office was closed so I couldn't get a map of the cemetery. As it turned out, the graves were not damaged in the storm. Now I'm familiar with their exact location so that I'll be able to find them again. As I was searching, Stacy called and told me she needs her cat carrier back, and then Amy Lewis called and asked if anything was going on Tuesday night. She said she'd call me when she got out of class to see if I'd found anything to do.
Later that night Shelley instant messaged me on AIM and I asked her if she wanted to hit up Beto's. Right about then Amy called back. We began to plan our evening around midnight. Amy picked Shelley up and they met me at Anthony's house. We sneaked into his backyard, I with my rave-in-a-box, and Shelley with her flashlight. When we got to his window I turned on the siren and flashing red light, and Shelley started waving around her flashlight. We finally managed to rouse Anthony from his video game. Apparently we scared him. He thought that either his neighbors were being broken into or that some stoners were messing with him.
We all left for Beto's in my car. When we got there, I think Amy was a little culture shocked. She didn't understand why the sauce cart in the middle of the restaurant was called a salad bar, or why I'm so fond of the place. Why am I? Because it's fabulous. We're planning a Party Monster-esque club kid invasion of Beto's.
When we got done eating, we went back to Anthony's house and talked him out of making us watch Heartbreak Ridge and into watching Kill Bill Vol. II, which none of us had seen in its entirety, but we won't go there (at least, not right now). It was interesting. It didn't seem to flow as well as Kill Bill Vol. I, but it was a good film nonetheless. After Shelley and Amy left I talked with Anthony outside his house until just past 6:00 am, then headed home.
When I woke up Wednesday, I decided to ask for the day off to "prepare for the hurricane" which I intended to do (sort of), but never got around to. I talked to Robert who said it was really slow, so I wasn't needed. I got to spend about an hour with Kristen, and that made my day. When I got back home, I caught up on some much needed sleep. Kristen called before she went to bed and told me she was thinking of me, which makes me smile.
Later today, I'm going to work, and staying until they tell me to leave. I need the money if I'm ever going to get out of my parent's house again. Living at home has its advantages, but it's driving me crazy. I have my freedom here, but that's not enough. I need my space, but until I make enough money to make another move financially possible, I'm glad I can live here. I'm thinking about checking into an extended stay motel room and paying a weekly or monthly rate. I wonder how much that would cost. I think I'll check on that tomorrow.
In other news, Hurricane Frances is rearing its ugly head in the Atlantic, and heading straight for Orlando. You know what that means: hurricane party! I'm still trying to decide where to ride out the storm. That's all going to depend on who I do and don't want to be around for a 20 hour long hurricane. Wherever I do end up, I hope Kristen will be there with me.
