History: Wiki link

Personality: From an outside view point, Shouichi is the perfect definition of a nerd. Reserved, private, and intelligent enough that he can not only grasp complicated notions like the relation of time and space, but also build devices that all but bend them to his will. Out of the colorful cast populating the Reborn universe, he is usually considered to be one of the most 'normal' characters despite this -- beyond his intelligence, he has no unique powers of his own, no driving interest in or background connected to the mafia, and often exhibits the most humanized reactions (along with the series protagonist, Tsunayoshi) to the unreal things going on around him.

The first thing we learn about Shouichi is that he is prone to frequent anxiety attacks, usually caused by outside stimulus, and resulting almost directly in the crippling stomach aches he has later in life whenever he begins to become stressed. Unfortunately for him, almost everything can be seen as a source of stress -- the people he interacts with do strange things like sprout fire from their hands, one of them is a talking baby with a gun, and he tends to work himself to death and stomach ulcer over any project he is given.

He has a natural tendency to try and hide from and avoid the unusual, for the most part, unless he feels directly involved or related to it. If Shouichi believes he is at fault for something, however, he will go through any means to try and correct his errors, even if it means something important to him, or something he cared about. In this way, the red head is quite a conundrum -- as he's also proven himself to be quite selfish, at one point continually jumping through time streams after making alterations to his current life in attempts to secure himself a future as a musician. This, however, resulted in his future best friend's 'ability' surfacing, and the destruction of almost eight tetra billion separate time lines and universes (which he later blamed himself for, and took it upon himself to set things right by going against and eventually getting said friend killed).

Despite his noticeable selfish streak, his need to do the right thing for the good of the world is still noticeable and present -- mostly noticed with his willingness to betray his own organization and friend for the better of the world. His loyalty to the Millefiore began and ended with his loyalty to Byakuran. Upon meeting in college, the two became close friends -- despite their obvious differences, Shouichi being more introverted and serious as opposed to Byakuran's generally outgoing and carefree reactions to life -- and it was no surprise when he followed up on that by becoming his 'right hand man' of sorts. He was no doubt one of the most important figures in his life at the time, and even goes so far as to state in canon that these days were the 'happiest of his life.'

Despite this, his reasons for befriending Byakuran in the first place revolved around trying to set right his own errors -- his future self sending notes and instructions to the past to complete the plan to send the Vongola into the future and stay along the track that would send him to university. He seemed to be eager to help his friend accomplish his goals until the self-imposed five year long amnesia of Byakuran and what he'd seen in his various trips to the future was broken, and he realized the destruction that would come about from even. Even upon finding this out, though, he kept up the act of loyalty while working on plans with the Vongola to undermine and destroy the threat the Millefiore and Byakuran posed to everyone, working on composing a sort of crash course training method that would prepare the young Vongola for a confrontation with his former best friend.

Because of this, Shouichi is a dedicated actor in his older age -- maintaining the illusion of being the Vongola's enemy to all but a handful of people in the time it took the young guardians to launch an invasion on his base. It was only when they arrived in his lab and he turned on one of his allies (shooting her with a tranquilizer gun), and slid down into a pile of relief at being able to finally relax, that any of them realized he was friend and not foe. He took it upon himself to stick with the plan that had been concocted between himself and the older Tsunayoshi and Hibari (at the very least) despite the pressure it would place directly on him -- eventually leading to constant surveillance and being the focal point of camera feeds directly to Byakuran, perhaps out of the guilt he felt at being one of the root causes of the destruction.

Even after his plan was derailed with the reveal of the 'real' six funeral wreaths, and his own mare ring being fake, he worked his hardest to assist the Vongola in righting everything and defeating Byakuran, to the point where he at one point passed out, and then later was almost lost his life during the formal Choice battle. He would quite literally give his life for his goals, if he found them worthy enough. Perhaps out of gratitude, and respect, for the Vongola afterwards, he also swore himself as one of their mechanics -- both in future and in the past, when his younger self received the memories of what would have transpired ten years from then.

Despite this talent and dedication, however, one thing he's never been able to quite fully suppress is his temper. True to the preconceptions about red heads, he has quite a fiery temper -- sparking quickly with shouting and occasional lashing out. Though the initial burst is generally quick, if volatile, instead of smoldering out, Shouichi seems to have an ability to hold grudges and remain angry over something that upset him for a long period of time, similar to how he can hold on to guilt. He tends to have a problem just letting things go.

He has a love of music --  and is almost never seen without headphones while he's working, on top of being a mediocre guitarist, as well as strategy games. In canon, he is one half of the creative brain behind the strategy battle game CHOICE that was later adapted into a real life setting for the battle against the Millefiore, which shows that he has at least a slight creative lean and tendency to look above and beyond established things for ways to entertain and challenge himself.

Powers & Abilities: As Shouichi has no canon powers of his own that don't involve his mare ring (which, by this point in canon, has broken because it was a FAKEY FAKE), which channels his flame energy -- something unique to the KHR universe, in its own way, the 'flames' are a type of internal energy that is explained as a physical manifestation of one's will. This energy is split into several different sub types, each with their own effect. His was a 'Sun' type flame that hosted a key trait of activation, and was used mostly as a healing or support implement.

Third-Person Sample:
He awoke to the strange feeling of water lapping at his body, brushing against his hands and sticking auburn hair to his cheeks. A faint groan escaped him as he moved to push himself up -- the bandaged wound in his side sending a twinge of pain through him, earning and flinch and a soft, muffled curse before his eyes flicked up, one hand lifting to rub the back of his neck as he examined the strange surroundings. ..where was he? It definitely wasn’t the cold and technical, if messy, make-shift lab that was hosting the machine that he’d been operating.

In fact, he couldn’t think of anywhere near by that looked anything remotely like this, as naggingly familiar as it was. Maybe it was on the mountain? Though how he’d gotten their from an underground laboratory was a bit troubling... He frowned, slowly moving to stand and step away from the shore, turning slowly. It was a bit warm for being deep within the mountain, or at least it seemed like the air should have been colder. If he had some sort of equipment, it would be easier to pin point a location -- perhaps there had been an error in the transfer process, and that he’d gotten caught up in it. Though if that was the case, where were the others? Had they been split up?

Ugh... But that shouldn’t have been, he’d run test after test after test before the plan had been set into motion to be sure there would be no errors like this. Maybe something had gotten broken, jostled when the Merone base had been transported? It had caused massive damage to the area around them, so it wouldn’t be surprising... But he would have thought that he or Spanner would have noticed it. His mind was buzzing with possibilities, checking and rechecking each memory of the diagnostics and just-in-case checkups.

Above him, something rustled -- and he paused, eyes lifting slowly as he stared up the cliff face, at the sight of a heavy ball of rocks tramping along on stubby legs, matching arms at its sides. For a moment it paused, turning in his direction to flash a simple, flat face, before turning again to disappear into the tall grass.

“T-tall grass...” The man murmured, sliding down onto his bottom with a soft thump, eyes wide and a cold chill washing over him as it suddenly occurred to him why this place might look familiar. “N-no way, t-that’s impossible...” He hissed to himself, color draining from his face. He was not in a pokemon game.

First-Person Sample:
[A distant rustle, and then an almost tired voice, still wrapped with distant trappings of panic and worry. But, mostly, he just sounds exhausted.]
So I guess the existence of a network means I’m not alone here, but... That’s even more worrisome. How many people have been brought here? Considering the magnitude of a world jump, I doubt this is a malfunction on the part of my machine...

[Another pause, and then in a hesitant whisper, voice cracking slightly, he offers a quick --] We can’t seriously be in a Pokemon game, can we..?!

Anything else?
