[Background]
Oz Bezarius, son of the noble family of Bezarius.
The series of Pandora Hearts begins on the day of Oz’s fifteenth birthday. The first thing viewers learn about Oz is that he is your typical teenage boy. Oz hides from his maids, roams the grounds of the mansion tirelessly, and enjoys picking on his servant, Gilbert, who is also his age (fourteen).
On the day of his birthday, Oz, his sister Ada, and Gilbert wander up to a ruin that Oz found earlier that day, all the while evading the pesky maids who are intent on fitting Oz into his outfit for that evening's events. While exploring, and teasing Gilbert senselessly, Oz and Gilbert fall down into a hidden part of the ruins-which just so happens to look like a graveyard. The graveyard, with only one headstone, attracts Oz’s attention at once. Swung around the cross-like tombstone is a golden pocket-watch. Interested, Oz reaches out and takes it. An eerie melody begins and before Oz knows it, he appears in a room filled with dolls. The melody continues, the dolls come to life, whispering incoherent things, and a girl appears before him. Confused as to how this girl knows Oz, he tries to escape, only to be thwarted. Angered that Oz cannot remember her, the girl tackles Oz to the ground, promising that she will kill him if they cannot be together. Oz reawakens shortly after to see a worried Gilbert calling his name. Oz shrugs off the odd event and pockets the watch, deciding it would be best to head back home.
Later that night, Oz meets both Sharon Rainsworth and Xerxes Break for the first time. Unknown to him, these two figures will play an important role in his future. Oz is childishly smitten with love for Sharon at first-sight and professes to his Uncle that he wishes to one day marry Sharon and dance with her when she's older. Oscar laughs and hurries Oz off to finish getting ready. The ceremony commences and Oz ascends the steps of the church. At the top is his friend Gilbert, dressed in his old, tailored robes. Oz had somehow managed to convince his servant to attend, and to drape 'the robe' on him at the end of the ceremony. However, when Oz places his hand upon the old, unmoving clock-tower, the hand moves and breaks the eerie silence just before he finishes his vows to protect the Bezarius household.
Shortly after, Oz is sent to the abyss after a series of life-changing events including the possession of Gilbert by a mysterious Baskerville, and the reappearance of the ‘girl’ from the room. She doesn't seem to recongize him and is dressed differently, but the details matter little. He is sent to the abyss for one reason only: his exsistence is a sin.
When Oz awakes, he is in a world thought to be a fairytale made to keep young children in line. He has found himself in the abyss-the prison of darkness for those who have committed the most horrible of sins. Shortly after, Oz ends up being forced into a contract with the ‘girl’ from the room, whose name is Alice, but is referred to by many of the other characters as B-Rabbit.
A bit later, Oz returns to the normal world, contracted to Alice. He awakes to a room with oddly familiar faces and a man that looks remarkably like his servant Gilbert, but far older. Oz learns that the Chain he had made a contract with is peculiar--different than most. She is searching for her lost memories and is far more human than any other Chain. Oz swears that he'll help her find her memories, no matter what. He likens Alice's lack of memories to his servant, Gilbert, and grows a bit nostalgic, determined to find the small servant boy while he learns more about the organization Pandora. (the organization that the members of the room are part of; Raven, Break, and Sharon ).
Pandora, as he learns, was made to protect the abyss. And illogically, he is the key. To what exactly, he isn't sure, but Pandora has made it clear that they want him--they even tried to save him from the abyss, having made preparations to do such just before the boy returned with Alice. Forced to become a 'subordinate' of the odd organization, Oz and his 'following' are sent out into the capital to explore, eat, and the works. Eventually, these rendezvous lead the group to the old mansion where Oz's coming-of-age-ceremony was held. Vines have grown over the old building and time has taken its toll on it. Oz wonders how the place could change so suddenly in just a few days. However, while sharing a conversation with Alice outside about friendship, gunshots are heard and Oz's confusion is finally cleared. Concerned as to what is going on, Oz rushes inside with Alice at his side, only to find a hooded Baskerville at the top of the stairs, with a horribly familiar chain dubbed Doldum.
Within her control are members of Pandora, moving about with zombie-like gaits, as well as Raven, who is tangled up in the middle by invisible, unbreakable bonds. The hooded baskerville, addressed as Zwei, notices Oz's arrival and cackles manically, looking to Raven with utter amusement. Without warning, Zwei announces that ten years have passed and it's ironic that Raven would be posessed once more by her, in this very spot.
And that is when she addresses the man as 'Gilbert Nightray', a sadistic smile on her lips. Unable to accept that ten years have passed in only a day, at most, in the abyss, Oz rushes forward, only to be attacked by a posessed Raven. The man, obviously physically stronger, manages to pin Oz to the ground, a look of hatred and insanity in his eyes. Without thinking, Oz's hands make quick work with the man's cravat, struggling to get up...only to find a scar leading from Raven's shoulder to his hip. The same scar he had given his servant before disappearing into the abyss. Oz then is faced with an absoluete reality; Raven is Gilbert.
Ashmaed that he had been gone so long, and had caused the servant so much anguish, Oz reaches for Raven's gun, telling him he'd be better off dead than living to see the hurt and pain he caused Gilbert--knowing that he broke his promise of staying with the servant. Somehow, Raven snaps out of his trance and just before Oz shoots himself, redirects the gun in Zwei's direction. After the chaos of settles down, and Raven pledges loyalty to Oz, even though he had betrayed him by Joining the Nightrays, the group return to the capital.
While exploring one day, Oz is left in an alleyway with Gilbert's hat while Alice and Raven 'get food'.
[Personality]
Oz, contrary to his age, is a highly complex character. The first layer is the side that many, to most, characters will see when they get to know Oz. On the outside, he emanates youthful happiness and naivety. From his actions, it becomes clear that Oz is extremely selfless and values others’ lives far more than his own. Typically, he's the average teenage boy that takes enjoyment in looking / flirting with pretty young girls and the occasional teasing of his servant. Oz is a playful person who usually always sees the bright side of the situation and often chooses to ignore the darker. Whether that's actually true or not is still debatable. Despite that, Oz is almost always smiling, even in the grimmest of situations. He’s a benevolent person who wishes to explore and learn as much as he can. Ever since he was little, he was fascinated by books and the knowledge they possessed. He apparently enjoys the piano and violin, as well as dancing and horseback riding. He's also quite academic and oddly enough, likes math. When he was young, he strove to learn as much as humanely possible to impress his father. However, when Oz discovers that his father wishes that he was never born and has no affection whatsoever for the young boy, his life does a one-eighty.
Oz’s true side stems from the rejection of his father. On the inside, Oz is a highly depressed character who considers him worthless. He would willingly sacrifice his own life to make a difference. He considers his life pointless and has come to believe that his existence is truly a sin. In fact, most of the smiles that Oz's flashes are completely fake. They're strained and forced. He doesn't want others to worry so therefore he's created a mirror-image of what he used to be, before he learned of his father's hate. This attitude ultimately brought him to contract with the Chain Alice, sealing his fate with a black clock seal on his chest.
Oz’s almost suicidal tendencies, which are usually easily masked by the happy façade and front he puts up, eventually subside after he realizes that he does wish to live to see his future. Although his views on how he sees himself change somewhat, he still considers everyone elses’ lives to be far more valuable than his own. Of course, this change is spawned by Eliot later in canon, so Oz's tendencies remain in Somarium.
Even deeper in Oz's persona is the part of himself he wishes to hide completely. Oz is prone to small fits of 'insanity', as some would call them. The stress and mental strain of having magically gone ten years in the future not only has taken a toll on others around him, but him as well. Suddenly, his best friend and sister are both older than him, and he's stuck at fifteen, with a gap of ten years of memories. In addition, there also is the stress of Pandora constantly fretting over him and his Chain, which is only worsened when Jack Bezarius takes the stage. Now, he's being called the reincarnation of a hero and the stress to end the Baskerville's plotting is upon him. His simple life is over. There's just no escape.
Unlike what happened with his father, he cannot hide behind fake smiles and ignore the man ( who is gone most of the time ). He is forced to face what is happening, and the people around him. His mind becomes weakened with all this stress, and it isn't a surprise that he just snaps sometimes. Sometimes angrily, saying things that hurt other people, and then instantly regretting it, and other times allowing the contract he holds with Alice to overtake him. Like what happened with Grim, the abyss slowly begins to fill into the human contractor, turning them slowly insane day by day. It takes a lot to keep from giving in to the constant whirring of darkness from his illegal contract. And just sometimes everything is too much to handle.
Oz may seem like he's an extremely social person who likes getting close to people and establishing lasting friendships. to anyone. That's only partially true. Oz prefers to keep people at a distance. He likes being friendly, but he doesn't want to get too close he doesn't want to be a burden on anyone, and he doesn't want to cause anyone pain. Because of this, he tends to keep secrets and fake smiles, even if he's grown 'semi close' to a person. Deep down, due to his father's blunt distaste for him, Oz has issues believing that people care for him. It's logical, also, that Oz flirts with so many girls because he's looking for acceptance. He wishes to be like his Uncle Oscar, who is happy, likable, and successful. If he mimics the man's behavior, perhaps people will like him to. That is more than likely Oz's logic. It's unlikely that the boy is actually looking for any type of relationship with the cute young girls he compliments.
All in all, Oz just wants to see other people happy and is trying his hardest to cling to the happiness around him. He doesn't want other people sad, and he won't admit that he's scared of what's happening.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Oz doesn’t really have any powers or strengths. He has a tendency to sweet-talk young girls, but that’s not really much of a strength, is it? He can be bossy when he wants to and sneaky at other times. His strength lies in his contract with Alice, but he cannot control her. He is the ‘servant’ in that equation, and his life will end when the hands of his clock make a full revolution.
[Affection]
He likes cute girls, a lot, so holding hands and hugging and swooning is fine by him~ As long as you talk to me before, I'm pretty much game for anything 8Db
[Fighting]
You can start a fight with him, but I doubt he'd want to. He'd not real big into fighting. Sorry guys.
