ROTM prompt 1.56.1

"I know I shouldn't have done it, but I couldn't resist. You were both in danger…I know you told me to stay out of it…we both knew this might happen…but I…I couldn’t let that happen to you. Either of you. It…the virus…the Cheetah has grown too strong. I’m sorry Professor. I didn’t mean to…” Ace’s eyes flashed yellow as she looked up at the Doctor and Hex. She could feel the virus take hold. She’d fought it for years and one silly mistake; one stupid, brave, futile mistake had allowed it to gain a hold of her. She sobbed freely.

She began to become like the Cheetah People, her senses since that day back in Perivale had always been exceptional, but now they increased still. She began to hear the Doctor’s dual heartsbeat, the pumping of Hex’s blood. The urge to hunt. To feed became stronger. She brought a hand up to her face and felt soft fur; her eyes darted from side to side. She began to feel like a caged animal, she needed to run free. To enjoy the hunt. To feed. She could smell the fear on Hex at what she was becoming. She didn’t need to hear his ‘Oh my Gods.’

She leapt away from them. She was too dangerous like this. She could lash out at her friends or worse kill them and she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she did that. “I love you Hex,” she said as she began to run.

“Ace…I love you too…” Hex didn’t know what else he could say. Ace stopped and her gaze turned to the Doctor, Not her Doctor, they still hadn’t found where he went, her stare mournful.

“I’m sorry Professor,” she repeated before she ran towards the nearby trees. She paused at the edge of the forest and looked back once more. “Good hunting,” she called before running into the forest.

All her friends heard was a sad roar before what was once Ace disappeared forever.
