We present.... The Catherine Cookson Experience!

TGIF... or something. I should actually be working but for some odd reason can't russle up the enthusiasm, ha. Not that there's all that much going on as it is. So, what I have been doing instead is reading random stuff in the net and LJ.

Thanks to 'goodboysparky' the unoffical JacDav website I came across this rather awesome LJ by a lady writer glvalentine. She writes all sorts of TV and film raleted stuff and recently (well, since April) she's been writing recaps of the minis made out of Catherine Cooksons books. OMG!! I've been giggling away for the last hour with tears in my eyes. Good thing my colleaques are now fully used to my occasional burst of hilarity at odd moments.

Yeah, I have read quite few of the Cookson's books but thankfully so long ago that the plots (or lack of) have long since vanished from memory. Even more thankfully I haven't watched any of these brain eating 'masterpieces' either (but rather had my braincells erased by things like Mendol instead, not much of a difference come to think of it XD ).

The first one of her 'Catherine Cookson Experience' recaps I came across was actualy the latest one she's posted; Tilly Trotter.

"Vital Stats:

Era: 18mumbletymumble
Heroine: Tilly Trotter
Siblings that require looking-after: None, but she keeps inheriting families full of people who want to marry her.
Illegitimate (Self or sibling): Nope!
Asshole Father?: Nope, just the village rapist.
Romantic interest(s): Farmer Simon, Lord Mark. She gets about 800 other proposals from interested parties, though.
Bairnsketballs: Not one! Can you believe it?!
Fistfights: Three....ish.
Assaults: Oh lord, the first HOUR is just nothing but poorly-planned assault attempts."

When I read the books I don't think I ever cottoned on to the fact that no-one gets killed by a person in CC stories but rather... "Usually someone hits them, then they hit their head on a rock, then a cartful of coal sacks is dumped on them, then a horse walks over them, then the cliff gives way, and then they're dead."

"...a cave, really?" Check out "The Dwelling Place" too when you're at it. ;P

fun stuff
