"You are worth more than you have been led to believe.
Tell me:

What is it to be American?
It is obviously more than simply being an American citizen.
I have seen and heard more people called ‘un-American’ than I care to remember, and not a single one of the judges spoke of why an act or opinion was ‘un-American’

Someone tell me what it is to be American.
A recent rant sent into my paper announced its disgust with one of the presidential candidates by including within a flurry of other ‘un’ words, the title ‘un-American’, but in this case it was thrown in there maliciously and without thought. It seems the term un-American has been used only to purposefully incite anger in someone when there is no other insult at hand.

But what do they call American?
Is cowardice un-American?

I’ve been under the impression lately that what is considered ‘American’ is an all-virtuous description of a Hero, a greater image of mankind represented by a single title associated with our country -as if our country were some Hero.

Lets not be stupid.

Whoever so wishes to complain that one person or another is un-American had best take a look at themselves closely, if that be the case.

If to be an American means to be Patriotic, then be sure to understand what it is you are patriotic about. No words can describe the ignorance present when someone closes their minds to change out of nothing more than patriotism, for this is taking the idea to a level of religion. Our country is not a God.

It is, in this sense, very American to question the decisions of the government, and it is very American to fight against the government when it is truly apparent that corruption has taken its toll.
That’s the closest thing to a Hero as one can be; going against the greatest odds, for the greater good.

They will point and laugh when one chooses not to fight in a war, when one refuses to shoot another man over the bickering of higher powers. They will call it cowardice, they will call it un-American.
I do not want to be a part of a country that considers respect for the living ‘un-American’.
Wars will always be, but that doesn’t mean you have to encourage them.
Evil will always be in the world, but this does not mean that we must accept it with open arms.
When the higher powers use the face of religion to hide their intent, when they use excuses completely absurd to make the people believe their deceptions, then there is no trust that can be reciprocated. This is not a document against any party of the presidential election, this is a document against the very foundation of false-patriotism and misplaced loyalty. Be loyal to the people, not the name of the country. Inhumane has meaning, Un-American does not.
The media has long forgotten their place as the bringer of information to the public, and have sold themselves to the highest bidder, giving information only profitable to them. So much is hidden from the eyes of the public; so much that to learn it would disgust the people, because they will have realized how much trust they put into what they thought was the truth.

American Pride has always held the people in a tight grip. I have limitless respect for those that have died before me defending the country and doing the dirty work for the government, but I do not have limitless respect for the properties of the government itself.
No, I have no American pride. I am not proud to be an American. Perhaps there is more freedom here, but it is run by a system with a very twisted reality. Its almost like the country is convincing itself that it is honorable and virtuous..
Meanwhile, it has long stopped listening to the people, causing many of the people to stop talking.
Pick up your hands and write, lift your voice and shout; do not stop communicating to the system that things are bad, nor hold back if they are good.
America should be a country run by Democracy, not twisted Capitalism. Greed has taken over the branches of government, it has taken over our communication, and it does nothing but slow all forms of progress down, corrupting those closer to gain.
It may never be destroyed, but it can be fought.
You who read this are human. You are worth as much as the next human. If you have a voice, recognize that your voice is important. If you have no voice, then every word you communicate through any other means is equally important.
You, who read this, are a masterwork of creation, be it evolution or divine will. You are not worth less than any member of politics, nor any person who has more wealth. Even the founders of America knew this; and now the country is posed to make the poor feel less worthy of honor, respect, and opinion. It has dominated the people into believing that they are not valuable and therefore should go along with any decisions made. America’s system has pressed down on the people to raise itself up higher, stretching its arms across the seas to do as it pleases on the shoulders of the poor.
It can be corrected. I suppose a way of stating it in those confusing terms would be that as of late, America has been very un-American, and this stems solely from its government.

It is said “If you don’t vote you have no right to complain.”
Why is that?
Is voting the only voice we have? That is foolish. We all have our voices. If they vote for one who spews lies and turns against the people as president, will they say “well looks like we voted for the wrong person.”? Why not stand up when this happens? We should be able to complain whenever the system is trying something stupid, whether we vote or not. Voting should be a right, not our only chance to speak. Even so, voting is dampened and we have little sway as an individual, far less than it appears. The president is not meant to be Caesar, or Emporer, or King. The Presidency was never meant to be such a position, and now it has exceeded those positions, becoming more complex as the corrupting power seeps into neighboring areas of politics.
Change is due."
