musicalmedic Nathan was wet. And he was cold. His shoes were making interesting squishing noises as he hurried along the drenched Princeton sidewalk. He swore there had been no hint of rain when he left for work that morning, and it was why he decided to save some gas and just leave his car at home. He hadn't managed to get an apartment within easy walking distance of Princeton Plainsboro, but he had been up earlier than usual that morning and decided to make the effort to walk. What a damn mistake. By the time it was lunch time, it was pouring down. His day had gone from bad to worse as it was, and by the time he left, he missed the bus going in the direction of his home and a taxi couldn't get to him for as long as it would take him to walk home. So he just did.
The thing was, he didn't realise just how late it had gotten by the time he did reach his street. He hadn't forgotten about his date, it had just slipped his mind a little when he got yelled out by a demanding father telling him he was useless and didn't want a 'fucking kid' touching his daughter. It wasn't exactly the best boost to Nathan's ego. He wasn't a student anymore, he was a fully qualified doctor on a residency. Just because he was in his early days, didn't mean he was fucking incapable! He managed to let himself get broody and pissed off about it during the rest of the day, until he snapped at a nurse and realised he was being stupid. She understood, having been in hearing distance of the yelling, and he managed to pull himself out of the funk. The rain just didn't help, and he got distracted.
His home one half of a refubished house that was split into two smaller apartments. He loved it, and it meant he got a bit of a garden out the front. It was on the small side, but two story, the living areas and kitchen downstairs, and two small bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. The neighbours seemed pleasant enough, too, so all in all, he was sure he lucked out on the property front when he came to Princeton. He wasn't renting, choosing instead to get a mortgage and buy a place. He planned to stay here for awhile, so it made sense. Also gave him the luxury to be a bit more choosy with where he lived and this wasn't directly in the town centre. It was homely, and gave him a small haven to come home to from his busy shifts. He side-stepped a large puddle as he reached the front gate and ran up his path to his door, trying to dig his keys out of the pocket of his jacket. He cursed softly when the rain seemed to pelt down heavier and he bounded up the stairs, only just realising someone was standing there before he banged right into them. He jumped in surprise, grabbing the stair rail so he didn't fall over and looked up through his hair that was wet and plastered to his forehead. "Mel!" he gasped. "Oh holy shit. I didn't forget! I swear I didn't forget!"
Mel had decided while she was waiting on Nathan's doorstep that there was a reason girls weren't supposed to wear dresses in winter. Only she'd had the thought to make an effort, her legs covered in tights, and a heavy coat over the top to try and keep warm. She'd luckily not been so sheltered that she hadn't realised it was raining, and had an umbrella with her. After the third time she buzzed his apartment though, she had figured he wasn't in. Mel had tried to call him, but it was going to voicemail.
If it had been any other guy, and any other date, Mel would have assumed it was time to leave. She'd promised Randy, and more importantly, she'd promised herself that this time she wouldn't run. She was having this date even if it meant she waited here all night. Nathan was a doctor, so there could have been any number of emergencies. He might have even been in an accident, and she wouldn't know. Who would call her? She was just some girl he knew.
She was doing a little dance to keep herself warm as she stood under the shelter of his stoop. Mel was chewing the inside of her lip, trying to work out if she called him again, or called Randy just for someone to talk to, when Nathan finally arrived. Mel echoed his gasp as she saw how drenched he was, and reached out to take his hand to pull her up next to her out of the rain. "Nathan! Oh my god, look at you... Are you okay? It's okay, I wasn't going to go anywhere. I tried to call..."
"I'm sorry," Nathan said through a rush of breath in relief as he finally got out of the rain pelting down on him. He was breathless now from running as much of the way as he could and he pushed his fingers through his hair to try and brush out some of the excess water. "My phone died late this afternoon. My head has been all over the place most of the day. Shit, I really am sorry. I didn't forget. I knew it was tonight, just somewhere along the way my brain stopped reminding me it was tonight, and then I got held back at work with a difficult patient. Or difficult parents, I should say, and snapped at my nurse." He finally pulled his keys out of his pocket and held them up with a small, triumphant smile. "If you just give me a few minutes, I'll get changed and we'll be right to go," he promised, managing to keep his composure, even though he was standing there dripping wet.
"It's okay," Mel said again as she gave him a smile, but her expression still reflected concern. She was sure he'd be the luckiest guy on Earth if he didn't catch a cold after getting so wet. "You gotta be soaked to the bone. Just take all the time you need, I'm not in a rush. I know we agreed on an early night, so if you only have time for a soda, or something, that's okay with me. I... We can... Um, I can come another night. I'm more worried about you, than the date," she admitted. "I don't want you to feel obligated, or anything. Sounds like your day really sucked, you probably just want to be alone."
Nathan shook his head as he unlocked his front door. "No, I really don't. Company would be awesome right now. If you go, I'll just go to bed and waste the night. I'm fine, I promise. I'm tougher than I look," he assured her, glancing back at her with another smile. He got the door open and stood back so she could go in before him. "Were you waiting long? I'm really sorry. I'm usually not this unreliable. If I wasn't stressed out, I would have called you." He kicked his wet shoes off when he got into the small foyer of his place. His heart was still beating fast from the exertion of running in the rain, and it felt like it was going to jump out of his chest. He knew that it was also anticipation, though. It had been a pleasant surprise to find Mel on his doorstep, but it meant he hadn't had time to work himself up to the date. He might manage to remain calm and collected on the outside, but he got nervous about things like dates just as much as the next person. His hair kept flopping into his face, and he batted it back again to start peeling himself out of his now-heavy coat. His pants felt like they were plastered to him and he couldn't wait to get out of them.
"Um, I don't really..." Mel glanced down at her watch as she pushed up her coat sleeve. "Oh, I guess about half an hour. But it's okay! I was a little early. Don't worry about it, really. I mean, I stayed, so I feel like I got through the first bit. My sister and me were talking about this stuff, and she said that talking about sex would be the hardest, but right now I was thinking that waiting it out would be the hardest. It's so easy to just get up and walk off, you know? But you're a doctor, and being patient is important because I want to show you that I get your schedule, and I'm not just..." Mel trailed off as she started to blush, and gave him a sheepish look. "I'm sorry, I'm rambling. I don't mean to. I just don't want to be hump girl!"
Nathan got the coat off and dropped it onto the floor in a heap, kicking it to the side. He'd worry about it later. It was probably going to need a wash, anyway. He got splashed by a muddy puddle when a car had driven by too quickly. The coat hadn't done much to keep him dry. It wasn't waterproof. His shirt underneath was wet too, and sticking to him uncomfortably. He wasn't even thinking about awkwardness when he started to unbutton it. He laughed at her, trying to follow. "I'm sorry, what? What's a hump girl? You and your sister sound like you have some interesting conversations," he noted as he reached the last button and then twisted his way out of the wet shirt.
"The hump thing came from Cameron. He said he was worried that if we had been dating I'd never be able to make a decision and that the shyness would be like this massive hump, or something, I just didn't want to be a hump girl. I can make decisions!" Mel's moment of confidence was shortlived as she watched Nathan twist out of his shirt, and felt her jaw drop open. It wasn't like she hadn't seen his chest before - he'd flashed her at New Year's, but this... This she actually got to see all close up, and wet, and no t-shirt for him to pull back down, and stop her from staring. She wet her lips as she swallowed thickly, and tried to stop every thought involving them, an open fire, and a rug from ruling her. Only her cheeks were heating up for a whole new set of reasons, and she shuddered slightly.
Nathan wasn't as completely clean cut as he came across in his doctor's scrubs. Under this shirt, a few tattoos were revealed. He had one in between his shoulder blades,
a small caduceus which he got when he graduated with his MD. Another was on his bicep, an American flag because he did love his home and was proud to be American. The third was on the inside of his forearm, and not clearly visible as to what it was. It was the one most dearest to his heart, and the first he ever got. He also had a four-leaf clover, tiny, about the size of a nickel, on his butt but that wasn't anywhere visble. Yet.
His tongue was resting on his top lip as he listened to her. "You don't need to be so defensive, you know. I'm not going to bite you. I get it, guys are scary. You aren't comfortable, don't easily interact with them... something along those lines. It's fine. But you don't need to be so nervous," he told her, looking over her face wondering if maybe there was a risk she was going to bolt on him if he said the wrong thing. He didn't want her to bolt. He really, really didn't. He reached out and took her hand, bringing it up to his lips and kissing her fingers. "Just chill, okay?"
Mel squeaked as she nodded, shuffling forward to be closer to him. "I'm sorry," she murmured again, her fingers curling around his as a shiver rolled up her back as she felt how cold he was. Mel reached out as her eyes flicked to the tattoo on his bicep, fingertips brushing against the image. She bit her lip as she looked back up at his face, brown eyes tracing his features as she memorised them. "You don't scare me," she whispered. "I'm just nervous because I'm excited. I couldn't wait to see you again."
Nathan shot her a smirk. "I'm glad to hear I don't scare you. That could make things interesting if I did," he pointed out. His tongue darted out and swept over his lips. He still had his hand wrapped around hers and he linked their fingers together, pulling her in towards him just a little bit closer. "I'm sorry you had to wait," he murmured, his blue eyes exploring her face again before they dipped to her lips. He leaned in, claiming them with his own in a kiss that was like an invitation at her, trying to reassure her that it would be okay, until he raised the bar a little and deepened it, waiting to see how she responded.
Mel's hand pushed up his arm, sliding over the damp skin before she gripped the back of his neck. Her other hand was still linked with his, and she didn't try and take it away as her brain short-circuited and just let her react on instinct. Mel kissed him back forcefully, taking the invitation and running with it as her tongue darted out to meet his briefly before slipping past his lips into the warm cavern of his mouth. She let out a soft moan, and pressed her body right up against his as she kissed him hungrily.
After his crappy day at work, Nathan's inner gentleman wasn't having a look in right now. He didn't want to stop this and suggest they just head out on the date they had planned. He was aware he had a table booked in some restaurant he suddenly couldn't remember the name of nor particularly cared that they would miss the booking. He was struggling to focus on anything but kissing her right now, reciprocating just as hungrily. He was so horny, it had been awhile since he had sex. Probably a good six weeks, give or take. The move to Princeton had been all-consuming and he had been too exhausted to try and find someone to go out with to get laid. Not that getting laid had been his purpose of agreeing to go on a date with Mel. Not at all. In fact, it hadn't crossed his mind beyond wondering what her body was like in the wake of the New Year kiss. He was male, he couldn't apologise for that. Same as he couldn't stop his dick reacting now the kiss intensified, and he moved, easing her up against the wall and letting his hips rock forward so he could get just a tiny bit of friction against her hip. He figured if she didn't want it, she could just push him away and halt things.
The moment her hand was free Mel gripped at Nathan's ass, unable to help herself. She'd been thinking about it since he'd bent over in the DJ booth and she'd caught a glimpse. It hadn't been that long since she'd had sex after her day with Cameron, but this was different. It wasn't just a friends with benefits thing. She didn't have to know that it was temporary because he wasn't her guy. She could let herself go, and just let Nathan claim every last part of her while she did the same in turn, and claimed every last part of him. There wasn't a single thought in her head telling her to stop this. The kiss broke off to Mel's distaste, but she managed to catch her breath before kissing him again, this time softer. "Coat," she murmured. "Need... off..."
Nathan's heart hadn't had a chance to settle before the kiss, and he was still breathless. He wet his lips, still tasting her there as he starting to tug the sleeves of her coat down her arms. Their lips connected again after he gave a tiny nod in agreement and even though they were distracted actions, he managed to help her out of the coat, discovering she had a dress on underneath it. He hadn't known her long, so for obvious reasons, he hadn't seen her in a dress, and he liked it. More than liked it. He had to pull out of the kiss so he could look down, appreciating how it draped over her curves and just served to spur his arousal on even more. He was cold, but it was the furthest thing from his mind. It wasn't going to take long for body heat to do it's work. He dropped his head a little and pressed his lips to the soft skin of her chest where the neckline of the dress was low, but not low enough to let him see what he was desperate to catch sight of. The mystery was a turn on and he let his lips trail just a little lower, his hand resting on her hips.
Despite it meaning she would lose at least an extra inch of height, Mel kicked out of her shoes. Her toes wriggled against the floor, and she could feel the butterflies amp up in her stomach as her heart started to race. This was better than jumping him in the elevator, or any other fantasy she'd entertained in the short time she'd known Nathan. She knew Randy had told her to speak to him about the grey area, and sex, but why speak when clearly actions were just so much more delicious? Mel's head threatened to fall back against the wall, but instead she leaned forward and started to kiss Nathan's shoulder, tasting the rain water on his skin. Her nipples tightened in response to the attention her chest was receiving, and this time Mel did let her head fall back as she arched her back. One hand left Nathan to reach behind her back so her fingers could try and catch the zipper. The dress now had to go too. There were suddenly just too many layers between her and Nathan.
It was tempting to just tug her dress up and take her right there against the wall. Really tempting. In fact, the thought alone had his dick straining in his pants and he couldn't stop a small, sharp gasp of anticipation falling from his lips and hitting her skin. But anyone could do the random sex thing, couldn't they? This was supposed to be a date. In his experience, too, where the sex just seemed random, the relationship seemed to be short-lived. He didn't want history repeating. He rose up again and with a smile, linked their fingers again. "I'll catch my death if we stay here," he murmured, walking backwards and pulling her with him. He allowed himself to curse inwardly just briefly for the bedrooms being upstairs, but it wasn't like it was a mile away. He turned and headed up the stairs, still holding her hand as they went. Thank god he made his bed that morning. If she was going to run, this would be her pefect opportunity, so he didn't rush up the stairs like a randy teenager. He paused at the top step and turned to her again, stealing another brief kiss.
Mel wasn't running. She didn't think her body was going to do anything but follow Nathan. It was like she was suddenly wired to be attracted to him, like a magnet. She smiled as he kissed her, her hand running his stomach, and arm as she held it close to her. She suddenly let out a soft laugh as her head rest briefly against his arm, and the nerves she'd been suffering from dissolved into something else. She lifted her head again, and raised herself on tiptoes to catch his lips in a kiss that lingered. Mel realised they weren't in his bedroom yet, but she stepped back anyway to let the dress fall to the floor and leave her in just her bra and tights. She quickly pushed those down to reveal the lacy panties underneath, biting her lip as she looked at Nathan. "No running," she told him.
