this was a nice weekend. rachel came in thursday night and we hung out.
friday was work. after work, girlfriend and i went to francisco's to celebrate our six month anniversary with salmon, shrimp and champagne. then we went to my sister's graduation where my brother and our respective girlfriends yelled, screamed and blew airhorns to let everyone know we were supporting my sister, who graduated top ten percent and received over $68,000 in scholarships and grants for her tenure at UT austin. i'm so very proud of her.
saturday was my sister's open house party where rachel got to meet some extended family and enjoy random baby pictures my granny had lying around. i talked to my grandfather about the amount of money i owed him and now we're friends again.
i do not like feeling guilt forced on me by my family members. i'm a busy guy.
sunday, girlfriend and i went to san marcos to meet future husband/wife, ana/jimmy at the root cellar cafe at the square. a nice place with very good sandwiches. saw their new apartment. started thinking about my future living situations... we said goodbye and left for austin. we had a list of five or six houses/apartments/townhouses we wanted to see, but we both really liked City View Austin on E Oltorf:
teh poolz
view from the complex (holy fuck, one can actually view the city...
what it looks like outside
what it looks like inside
floorplan. (sup, study/fireplace?)
got a tour of the model we were interested in leasing and i really couldn't find anything wrong with it. it appears really well put together and in a nice, hilly, tree-y area. not loaded with UT students nor old folks (the first 'city view' place we found was actually a senior living facility... it took me almost until i reached the door until rachel and i saw the massive 'senior living!' banners). we talked to our sales girl about costs, fees, etc. etc. and found that if we signed by monday (today), we'd end up saving around $1000 in rent/fee costs... so we looked it over many times and stopped by rooms to go (to check out
this couch) before leaving austin.
today, we printed the leasing agreement and the 'do you need a cosigner' paper. it was such a goddamn relief that i didn't have to drag any of my family members into the contract (...terrible memories) as she and i make enough gross income to sign our own fucking contract(!). this is all pending, of course- we still have a few days until we're contacted by the complex.
so that's about it. we chose a third floor apartment and are now on to the planning-the-move and buying-shit-to-fill-the-apartment stage now.
it'll be fun to drag a queen size (drag queen-size?) mattress up two flights of stairs...
so yeah, i'm really excited.
edit: i told my boss i was jumping ship in late august. he said he'd be more than happy to write me a great letter of rec. it felt good. real good.
