Red Wine, 'I Never', & Revelations After Dinner

Apr 08, 2007 19:25

With The Doctor & Aislinn's individual help to locate the linens & other things, Romana set a table filled with charmingly mismatched settings almost reminiscent of the Mad Tea Party. Candles of various sizes & colours flickered amongst the serving dishes set in the midst of the table ( Read more... )

The Doctor, whose small frame should not have been able to hold the three servings of food that it did, dipped a strawberry in chocolate, grinning as the liquid coated the fruit. Oh, the joys of human cuisine.

"Hmm? A game? Ooooh, after you've filled our stomachs, I think any physical action might be impossible. Honestly, you learned to cook this in only a few days? Impressive, Romana, honestly."

He took a bite of the strawberry, hissed at the heat, and blew on it before attempting again.

Romana waved a hand lightly. "I think the reason why the bread went badly the other day was because I was only partly following the directions, I tried to adapt the recipe when I was unfamiliar with its workings, and...well, there were some mishaps in there, too. I was more careful this time, and the instructions were simple to follow. I daresay you could do it as well, if you put your mind to it."

She took a sip from her glass. "Well, I'm not going to challenge any of you to a bout of Venusian Aikido. But maybe some game a little less strenuous..."

"I was hoping for a nice glass of wine, maybe a few more chapters in this Deathly Hallows book---have you read it yet, Romana? Brilliant, I tell you. First time I read it, I cried. I'm on my fourth re-read. Especially the bit with Snape---"

Oh, but he was rambling.

"What sort of game, then?"

The chocolate might have been slightly tempting, but there was cream, and really that was all that Aislinn seemed interested in. Out of deference to there being company, she used a strawberry to dip it out, nibbling at it with a bit too much pleasure.

"It really was very good," she told Romana, admiringly, settling back a bit, scooting the cream closer to her. Trying to think of a game, she eyed the wine. "There's always 'I never...'" Which could be interesting with this crowd.

Romana started to giggle at The Doctor's outburst, then covered her lips with her hand...and continued to giggle. "Sexity Sextown Sexania?" After a few moments (wherein she did not take a drink, although both Byron & Aislinn did, following The Doctor's lead) she had enough restraint to further clarify, "Well, I never slept with anything that had more arms or legs than I did."

"See, there you go, at it again!" He did a bit of a flail, something very like how he was when Romana had kissed him.

"It's a matter of embarrassing me, isn't it? Because, really, you don't have to embarrass me, I can do it quite well all by myself."

That said, he took a drink.

"I never..." Scowl. Scowl. Scowl. He was too intoxicated to think of anything remotely interesting. Everything that seemed interesting he'd already done.

"I never...performed an autopsy." There. That way he knew Martha would drink and he wouldn't look too foolish.

Aislinn made a face at the Doctor, but quite pointedly did not drink. Byron shuddered, but surprisingly, he did. Martha did as well, but then, that was to be expected. Romana did not, which was surprising as well.

She tried to think of something that would make more people drink more, because everyone needed to be as drunk as she was.

"I never ran away from home."

Byron grinned and took a long dirnk, with, oh, look, everyone else in the room.

"Well aren't we all the rebels." He considered carefully. "I never fought in a war for independence."
