This week was...unique, I guess.
I flew in an hour late on Saturday, London picked me up with Kathleen and Leo. Found out the funeral was the next day (thank you family) and thanked my lucky stars for remembering my nice outfit. We went home and waited around for dad or Jackie to get back and decided to start watching The Godfather because it was too cold to go downstairs and watch a dvd and The Godfather was the only interesting piece of film in our dinky upstairs cabinet. Once dad got home and saw what we were watching he pretty much dropped everything he was or planning on doing and we had a mini Godfather marathon until 11:30 p.m. The entire time I sat there thinking how odd it was for me to be sitting, watching The Godfather II with my dad and little brother, waiting for my grandma's funeral the next day.
The funeral...or as I should say, memorial, went really, really well. London was a mess, dad acted the way he always does, and I kept quiet the whole time while trying to tame my seven year old, incredibly antsy nephew. After the service everyone came back to our place where we received two messages from Carol herself, one in the form of a plate of apples and cheese literally flying off the table and breaking on the floor, and the second with one of the candles on our mantle randomly bursting the nearby Christmas cards into flames.
The next few days we laid low. Geo and I grubbed and chat and worked on ever impending homework. Wednesday we went to Carol's apartment and helped Nick clean out her clothes. I feel so horrible for that man. They only had seven months together, and most of the time was spent with either of them sitting in the hospital due to broken hips or bypass surgery.
I did get to spend the rest of the day with London and Kathleen though. I'm so excited about having another sister, especially one I truly admire as well.
Anyway...I spent the last few days hanging out with London, listening to her complain about this or that and ask me embarrassing questions like, "Erica. Have you ever smoked the GANJA?" With the boys in tow it's amazingly the best fun ever.
So now I am reflecting on the the mini Christmas get together we just had, receiving my new but used i-pod from Kathleen, and my Back to the Future trilogy (marathon anyone?) and electronic sudoku game from London. I'd have to say I'm pretty damn happy. I would be totally satisfied if Christmas ended here and I could just go watch endless amounts of South Park, Back to the Future and The Godfather with my family...forever.
