Author's Notes: For
enablelove, for her prompt of J2 babysitting Logan in my
help_haiti thread. Hope you enjoy! ♥
It all started with a phone call. Jensen’s brother had called him, announcing his plans for a vacation with his wife in Vancouver. Jensen’s mother was all for babysitting the kids, but, after hearing where his parents were going, Logan had insisted on coming to see Uncle Jensen. Jensen had agreed to babysit the kid for a couple of weeks, saying that it would be fine. Logan could come to set with them when they had to be there, playing with the other kids that the crew members brought to set and playing with the dogs. They’d make sure he got all his meals and got enough sleep. Well, more than they did, anyway. He could nap in their trailer. Jared was a bit reluctant, having had little experience with babysitting. But once Jensen turned to him, eyes bright and excited, Jared couldn’t refuse.
When he saw the way Logan leapt into Jensen’s arms after his parents dropped him off, Jared was glad that he didn’t. Jensen’s face lit up, and he laughed as he swung Logan in the air, the kid giggling almost uncontrollably. They ate a late dinner, Logan happily swinging his legs back and forth beneath the dining room table and politely asking for more after he cleared his plate. Jared stood to dish him out another helping, and he caught Jensen’s eye as he did. Jensen smiled at him, wide and happy and grateful, like this was the greatest moment he’d experienced in his life so far.
After Jensen helped Logan wash up and change, Jared stood in the doorway of the spare bedroom, watching as Jensen tucked the over-excited kid in and promised him that tomorrow would come before he knew it. He watched as Jensen kissed Logan’s forehead, ruffled his hair, and turned out the light, leaving the room beaming. And Jared thought that maybe this was one of the greatest moments of his life, too.

“Y’all locked in, buddy?”
Jared twisted around in the passenger seat of the van, grinning as he watched Jensen buckle Logan into his car seat and tug on the straps, making sure they were nice and snug.
“I’m in!” Logan answered excitedly, and Jared could see that the kid was still trying to bounce in his seat, so excited to see where Jensen worked. He couldn’t help chuckling at the sight.
“You sure?” Jensen asked, tugging on the straps again. “You comfortable?”
“Yes, Uncle Jensen!”
Jared laughed out loud at that one, the response so exasperated for a little kid and so fitting for Jensen’s nephew. Jensen sent him an amused glance and then patted Logan’s head, settling into his own seat and buckling his seatbelt.
“Alright, kid. Let’s go!”

Jensen already had women fawning all over him when he wasn’t carrying a kid around. But when he was carrying a kid around? They fawned over him so much that Jared thought he would grow tits just from standing too close to them.
“Say hi, Logan,” Jensen prompted, shifting Logan on his hip.
“Hi,” Logan said quietly, clutching Jensen’s shirt tighter and leaning into him. The women cooed. Jared had to admit the kid’s sudden shyness was pretty damn cute.
“I’m gonna put you down, okay?”
Logan opened up pretty quickly after that. But what kid wouldn’t? Everyone was smiling at him, showing him around a cool set, and slipping him treats every chance they got. Jensen tried to be stern about that last one, but his frown was only half-hearted when he caught Jeannie handing Logan an extra cookie. But Jensen’s sternness kicked up a notch when the guns came out.
“Hey.” Jared followed when Jensen pulled Logan as far away as possible, crouching down to his level. “Logan, I need you to listen to me, okay? This is really important.”
“Okay.” Logan’s eyes were wide. He’d already spotted the shotguns that had been brought out.
“No matter what happens, you stay back here until I tell you it’s alright. Okay?” Logan nodded. “I don’t want you getting hurt.”
Logan bit his bottom lip before speaking again, suddenly looking scared. “Can you get hurt?”
Jensen shook his head, giving him a reassuring smile. “No. Those guns we have?” Jensen nodded his head back towards the set. “They’re not real. But they’re still dangerous. They can hurt people, but we’re always as careful as we can be about it. Everyone’s safe. Right, Jared?”
Jensen looked up at him, and Logan’s widened eyes followed. “Right,” Jared said, standing tall and nodding. He was surprised at how relieved he felt when Logan looked relieved. He didn’t like seeing the kid so scared. “Everyone’s gonna be fine. We just need you to stay back here until we’re done.”
“That’s right,” Jensen said, smirking and looking back at Logan as he stood up. “Now your uncle Jensen’s gonna go take care of some of those bad guys.”
“Showoff,” Jared commented as they walked away, and Jensen just smiled.
“Come on, I have the coolest job ever. He gets to watch me shoot shit up and save people. It’s awesome. I get to be the kid’s hero.” He nudged Jared, shoving at him playfully. “We both do.”
Jared raised an eyebrow, but didn’t say anything. He worked through the scene, and was surprised at how accomplished he felt when it was over and Jensen called to Logan, the kid running over excitedly.
“That was so cool!!” Logan shouted, Jensen high-fiving him. When Logan turned around and hugged him, Jared decided that yeah, it was pretty cool.

Jared stacked a plate up with cookies and brought it over to where Logan sat in Jensen’s chair. They’d already taken a picture of Logan sitting there, the chair looking far too big with Jensen’s name showing behind him. But Logan looked happier than ever. Jared took a seat in his own chair, sharing his plate with Logan, the two of them watching Jensen and Jim film a scene between Dean and Bobby. It was emotional, and Jared got caught up in it, drawn into watching Jensen work, like he always did. Dean was upset and angry, his voice rising and breaking as tears filled his eyes.
It was only after the second take that Jared heard a sniffle, and he looked over at Logan. The kid held an unfinished cookie in his hand, his eyes fixed on where Jensen was standing and collecting himself, getting ready to do it all over again. Jared saw a tear fall down Logan’s cheek, and he immediately set the plate of cookies down and gently put his hand on Logan’s shoulder.
“Logan? What’s wrong, man?”
Logan just turned to him, eyes shining with unshed tears and bottom lip quivering. He looked shocked and a little bit afraid. It hit Jared then that Logan had probably never seen Jensen like this, shouting and looking intimidating, and then standing on the verge of a breakdown. He wasn’t used to seeing this from his uncle. Not when he was sitting right there.
“Hey.” Jared got up out of his chair and knelt down in front of Logan, hands on his shoulders. “Hey, it’s okay. Look at me.” Logan looked him in the eye, just a frightened little kid, and it was then that Jared knew Jensen’s nephew had officially squeezed his way into his heart. “You know Jensen’s just working, right? He’s not really upset. He’s just pretending.” Logan nodded but lowered his eyes, lip still quivering, and Jared leaned forward and hugged him.
Logan got off his chair then and hugged Jared back, face buried in Jared’s chest, little hands hooking into the back of Jared’s shirt. Jared rubbed gentle circles into Logan’s back, smiling a little in spite of the situation. It felt good to have Logan come to him for comfort. Behind him, Jensen shouted again, and Jared felt Logan flinch against him at the sound of it. He held Logan just a little tighter, staying like that until the scene was called. He pulled back just a bit, Logan’s teary eyes looking up at him, needing him.
“It’s okay,” Jared reassured him, twisting to look back at Jensen, who was running a hand over his face and still looking a bit strung out from the scene. Logan peeked around him.
“He looks sad,” Logan said, and Jared turned back to him.
“He’s alright. He isn’t really sad. But sometimes pretending you’re sad is hard. It’s just hard work.” Logan nodded wordlessly. “Hey,” Jared said, grabbing a cookie from the plate he’d left there and handing it to Logan. “I know what would make him feel better.” Logan took the cookie and looked at Jared, over at Jensen, then back to Jared again. “You wanna give it to him?” Logan nodded again but looked unsure. He looked afraid, and Jared stood up and held his hand out for the kid to take. “Come on, we’ll go over together.”
Logan took his hand, so small in his own, and Jared slowly walked him over to Jensen, Logan trailing a bit behind. Jared looked down at Logan when they got closer, and Logan stopped, silently holding his cookie up for Jensen to take. Jensen turned to them, his harried look easing away with a smile when he saw Logan.
“Is that for me?” Jensen crouched down in front of Logan and took the cookie from his fingers. “Thank you, Logan.”
“I think Dean scared him a little,” Jared said, Logan’s hand still clinging to his. Jensen looked up at him and then back at Logan, concern creasing his features when he noticed the tear stains on the kid’s cheeks.
“Hey, buddy, you okay? Did I scare you?” Logan nodded slightly, both of his hands gripping Jared’s right hand as he moved closer to Jared’s leg. Jensen’s face fell, and Jared’s heart broke just a little. “Aw, Logan. I’m sorry, buddy.” Jensen shifted a little on his legs. “Hey, come on, look at me.” He caught Logan’s eye and smiled for him. “Look at me. I’m still your uncle Jensen, right?” Jensen spread his arms, cookie still held in his hand, looking at Logan imploringly. “Can I have a hug?”
It took Logan a moment, but he eventually stepped away from Jared, pulling his hands free and moving towards Jensen. He wrapped his arms around Jensen’s neck, and Jensen closed his arms loosely around him.
“It’s okay,” Jensen murmured, moving his free hand up to ruffle Logan’s hair. “It’s okay.” He pulled back and held up his other hand. “You wanna share my cookie?” he asked, his eyebrows rising when Logan shook his head.
“It’s s’pose to make you feel better,” Logan said, and the part of Jared’s heart that had broken was suddenly sewn back together.
“It already has,” Jensen said warmly, kissing Logan’s forehead. “Thank you.”

Over two weeks, Jared learned a lot about Logan. He also learned how much he enjoyed having Logan around. It was quick, but he’d already gotten used to it, helping Logan get his coat on, tying his shoes for him. He got the kid lunch at work and at home on the weekends, making him a sandwich, cutting off the crust, and cutting it up into triangles, just the way Logan liked it. He watched Logan run around set with the other kids, watched him play on the floor with the dogs at home, happy that Sadie and Harley knew to be gentler with him. He loved seeing the excitement in Logan’s eyes when they filmed an action scene and high-fived him after every one. For all of his reluctance and initial awkwardness, he realized that he was okay with kids, and two weeks ended far too soon.
“You have everything?” Jensen asked, both of them crouched down in front of Logan. Logan nodded, looking just as sad as Jared felt. “Okay.” Jensen leaned forward and pulled Logan into a hug. “Bye, Logan. Love you, buddy.”
“I love you, too, Uncle Jensen.” Jensen patted Logan’s back and stood up, and Logan turned to Jared, throwing his arms around his neck. “I love you, Uncle Jared.”
Jared’s eyes burned, and he hugged Logan tight before kissing his forehead. “Love you, too, Logan. We’ll see you soon, okay?”
It was over, and they stood and watched Logan leave with his parents, Jensen coming up behind Jared and wrapping his arms around his waist.
“You were amazing with him,” Jensen said, kissing Jared’s neck and resting his chin on Jared’s shoulder. “Wasn’t so bad, huh?”
“No,” Jared said, shaking his head and turning around in Jensen’s arms to kiss him. “Wasn’t bad at all.”
