Author's Notes: Still working on that pesky
western, but it's slow going, due to RL happenings (though I do sort of have an overall plan mapped out). RL also has me way behind on fic reading, but I'm trying to catch up! In the meantime, I had this random idea and decided to write up this little fic, just for kicks. Also, I'm pretending Harley and Sadie went on a little doggie vacation for this fic, because I couldn't decide how to fit them in. Enjoy! :)
“How do you lose your own dog in your own backyard?”
“It’s Icarus in the snow, Jared,” Jensen answered shortly, stepping down off the back porch into the soft powder covering the grass and reaching up past his boots. “For all I know, he could be buried in it.”
“You’re worried about him,” Jared said, his tone only half teasing this time as he joined Jensen in the backyard, scanning the span of white in front of them and cautiously stepping forward.
“Shut up,” Jensen replied, token resistance, before sighing and moving in the opposite direction. “I just let him out to pee. Poor little guy could be freezing to death.”
“He’ll be fine, Jensen. You know how he gets carried away out here. Probably just wanted to play in the snow.”
“What if he got out?”
“He didn’t get out. How could he get out?”
“I don’t know!” Jensen took a deep breath, frowning as he watched it puff out in front of him. “He’s a crafty little bastard.”
“Just like his daddy.”
Jensen didn’t even take the time to ball up the handful of snow he swiped off the ground, flinging it at Jared, who held his hands up defensively and laughed, the snow sliding down off of his coat.
“It’s not funny, asshole,” Jensen grunted, narrowing his eyes and trudging through the snow. “My dog’s missing. And I’m the douchebag that lost him.”
“Relax, man. We’ll find him. He couldn’t have gone far.”
Jared was speaking to the back of Jensen’s head at that point, and his sympathetic tone gave no warning of the snowball that suddenly smacked into Jensen’s shoulder. Jensen stopped walking, going tense before slowly turning around, his glare almost enough to wipe the shit eating grin off of Jared’s face. Almost.
Jared turned and bolted as soon as Jensen took one menacing step towards him, but he soon heard an echoing set of footsteps crunching through the snow behind him. He laughed even as he grunted with the force of the impact of Jensen’s body on his, the wind temporarily knocked out of him as he landed facedown in the snow. Jensen’s hand was suddenly in his hair, gripping it tight and shoving his face into the cold flakes below him before lifting him up and away from it, leaving him gasping.
“You think you’re funny?” Jensen growled, and Jared laughed and pushed back, rolling over and reclining on top of Jensen, pushing his entire body down into the snow.
“I think I’m adorable,” Jared answered, grinning mischievously and pressing his ass back into Jensen’s crotch.
“My line,” Jensen grumbles, grunting and pushing Jared off of him. Jared managed to grip Jensen’s sleeve as he went, the two of them rolling in the snow.
Jensen began laughing as they pushed and pulled at each other, and Jared felt a warmth in his heart that made the Vancouver cold feel like a gentle breeze on his skin. He was beneath Jensen when they finally stopped moving, their harsh breaths visible in the cold air between them. Jensen was all covered in powdery white, snowflakes clinging to the ends of his hair, his eyelashes, the green of his eyes standing out even more against them and his pale skin. Jared knew he didn’t look much different lying on his back in the snow, a brief chill running through him at the feel of it on the back of his neck. Jensen smiled warmly at him, and Jared felt his own smile slowly fading as he watched Jensen lean closer, eyes closing. His heart beat a little faster in his chest as he let his own eyes fall closed, his lips parting at the touch of Jensen’s lips against them, soft and fitting together with his so perfectly. Their lips met again and again, soft caresses and gentle pressure, the barest tip of Jensen’s tongue licking along them slowly.
Jared opened his eyes when Jensen broke the kiss, resting their foreheads together. He watched as Jensen pulled away, eyes suddenly darting from his and widening as they spotted something else in the yard.
“Icarus!” Jensen shouted, pushing off of Jared’s body to get to his feet. Jared groaned and rolled onto his side before getting up and brushing himself off, watching Jensen hurry over to the little dog and lift him up in his arms. He smiled as Jensen unzipped his coat enough to bundle Icarus up in it, listening as Jensen talked to the dog quietly. “Givin’ me a damn heart attack, you know that? It’s okay. We’ll go inside and get warmed up. Little troublemaker.” Jensen looked up at Jared, pointing a finger at him when he raised his eyebrows in amusement. “Shut up.”
