Stole this from
dugindeep, and I'm not even posting explanations, to be more random. :P Don't even know if anybody'll read this, but whatevs!
Post the first sentence (or three) a random large chunk from every WIP you're currently working on, even if it's very short. Then invite people to ask questions about your WIPs. With any luck, you'll get talking about writing, and the motivation to take that WIP one step closer to completion will appear as if by magic!
Excerpt #1:
The guy was still hanging back when the group moved on, his eyes straying to the kitchen and all around, uneasy. He was tall, even a little intimidating, except for how lost he seemed. Long brown hair fell messily around his face, and he ran a hand through it, doing a double-take when he spotted Jensen heading for him.
“First time here?” Jensen asked, giving the guy a smile. He watched as the guy shifted on his feet, saw the way he stared at Jensen and then attempted to not stare, the blatant confusion in his eyes a clear sign that he was wondering whether Jensen was one of the blind.
“Uh, yeah! Yeah, it is!”
Jensen winced at the obnoxious level of the guy’s voice and chuckled, leaning in closer. “I can see you.” He kept his laughter down when the guy’s cheeks reddened. “And these people?” He nodded towards the blind seniors around them. “They can hear you. They’re blind, not deaf.”
One of the older men Jensen knew walked past them at that moment and muttered, “Unfortunately,” and Jensen couldn’t help but laugh again, the flush on the guy’s cheeks darkening. Jensen patted his shoulder.
“It’s okay. Just use your inside voice.”
Excerpt #2
She stood in the doorway of Jensen’s bedroom, watching him get ready, fussing with his hair in the mirror and desperately trying to flatten out the few creases in his shirt. He looked over at her when she heaved a mock sigh and smiled, his grin wide as he purposely popped and un-popped his collar until she was exasperated enough to say something.
“Now you’re just stalling.”
“Maybe I’m just waiting for your opinion,” Jensen said, shrugging and continuing to flex his collar.
“Fine,” she rolled her eyes. “I think you should leave it down.” He flipped it up and left it that way, winking at her, and she laughed. “I also think that, if you’re really trying to keep your gay side undercover, you shouldn’t be so darn fashionable.”
“Oh!” He allowed his eyes to widen comically, flipping his collar back down. “You think everyone will know? Maybe I should change my shoes.”
Excerpt #3:
"You're always saying shit like, 'Don't tell Jensen, he'll get mad!' and now it's, 'Thank you for reminding me, he would've been pissed!'"
"It's just a joke," Jared laughed, elbowing Jensen again. "But don't lie. If I'd forgotten, you would've been all over me. 'Now they'll think I'm an asshole!'"
Jensen shook his head, smirking at Jared's angry eyes, furrowed brow, and deep, gravelly voice. "So that's your angry Jensen impression, huh?"
“Yep,” Jared said, nodding. “Pretty spot on, isn’t it?”
Excerpt #4:
Jensen walked over to it and picked one up, lying back on the bed with it. He looked over at Jared and held out the cupcake, passing it under Jared’s nose as if it was smelling salts, smirking when Jared stirred, but didn’t wake. “Hey, birthday boy,” he said, nudging Jared’s leg with his foot and purposely smearing a bit of icing on the tip of Jared’s nose. “You gotta wake up. I have sugar.” He rolled onto his side, cupcake still in hand, and leaned over to lick the icing off of Jared’s nose. He smeared it on Jared’s lips next, licking over them in a slow slide. “Come on, man.” He peeled the paper back a bit on the cupcake and took a small bite, chewing and making a small sound of approval. “You should have birthdays every day.”
Jared stirred more then, stretching and huffing, awake for a moment before he finally started to open his eyes. “What’re y’doing?” he slurred, looking up at Jensen. Jensen shrugged and smushed more icing onto Jared’s nose.
“Eating your cupcakes.” He leaned in and licked the icing off again, smiling. “They’re delicious.”
Jared made a face and pinched at Jensen’s side, making him flinch. “Dude, those are mine.”
“You mean you weren’t gonna share?” Jensen asked, raising an eyebrow. “Greedy bastard.”
Excerpt #5:
“This is almost perfect,” Danneel whispered, her lips close to his ear as he held her and moved them both to the slow rhythm of the music.
Jensen frowned a little and covered it up, not wanting to spoil the mood of the loved ones standing around watching them. “I’m really sorry about Jared. I had no idea he would do this today. It’s not like him.”
“Of course you didn’t,” Danneel said, pulling back and looking at him adoringly. The look was for the crowd. Jensen could see the real concern in her eyes. “And it’s not like him. Even I know that. Do you think they’re okay?”
Jensen swallowed and smiled, despite the feeling of dread in his stomach. “I’m sure they are. Why wouldn’t they be?”
Excerpt #6:
“We totally fucked last night,” Jared says on the fourth day, and Jensen thinks it’s a little bit odd that Jared and Gen went around the appropriate bases like a couple of giggling teens.
“Yeah?” Jensen asks dryly. “How was it?” He’s gone from not eating to overeating, and he wonders a little how much his weight will be affected as he mirrors Jared’s movements, stuffing food in his face.
“Awesome,” Jared answers, taking a gulp of his soda. “Man, her pussy was so tight and wet. It was just, like…putting the stick in the candy apple, you know?”
Jensen stops eating and blinks. Of course, leave it to Jared to use a food-related euphemism, but still. “That’s so…gay.”
Something flickers over Jared’s face, gone in an instant, and then he smirks. “Gay like fucking a woman?”
