Luneth could feel Arc gravitate beside him, then sort of recoil slightly. He subconsciously knew that Refia cared for them and only knew how to express it best through nitpicking every thing. After all, if they didn't make it and Ingus did run out of food, then it really would have been dire. The problem was he didn't realise this consciously, and took Refia's masked mothering as a somewhat unnecessary action. Ingus did have a point; he was a knight from the very beginning, rigourous training was his precept, even if Luneth didn't quite catch the connection of Refia's purposeful, if somewhat misdirected, care. He was about to pat the back of his head in admittance and apologise, but Refia snapped back sharp.

What to do now, Luneth? Always quick to pick at Refia. And even if he didn't suffer from the lack of food, he knew that Arc and Ingus might feel uncomfortable with her glares directed to him, or her knack for ignoring him when she was angry.

"I didn't mean it like that."

That sounded just as bad - how else did you mean it, ( ... )

Arc practically jumped at the opportunity Ingus provided. He followed silently, trying very hard to ignore the explosion behind him. Refia cared for them all, sure, but that didn't mean Arc was any less uncomfortable around her righteous fury - especially when his brother had done plenty to deserve it.

... And speaking of Luneth doing things to deserve righteous fury.

This time Arc hid behind Ingus, peering out cautiously from behind the dragoon's shoulder at what promised to be a horrendous aftermath.

Oh, Ingus knew why Refia mother-henned them. That was why he wouldn't argue that he was a trained knight and knew how to take care of himself. She did it because she cared, and frankly she did take care of them a lot better than they would have taken care of themselves. He certainly wouldn't let a little lecturing tarnish their friendship.

He subtly checked his own supplies for bandages and Potions when Luneth continued to speak up. Something told him he might need to remedy a black eye in a little while... Especially if Refia kept good on her threat to not heal or feed him. "Luneth..." A quiet warning, stop talking. Now.

He sighed, paused, and stayed close enough to intervene if that became necessary. At this point Luneth was really asking for the beating she might deliver, however. At least Arc was safe behind him.

This wasn't going to end well, was it?

Their chocobos were right there, so Refia immediately made for hers as if she was going to just pretend Luneth didn't exist - but then she unfastened her staff from its holder.

And then she stuck it just in front of Luneth's legs right as he was walking.

It could have been a lot worse - being a blacksmith let her throw a punch with the best of them - but she was still too happy with finding Ingus to really do something bad.

"Now," she continued, pointedly ignoring Luneth, "where do we want to go? I don't want to sleep in this place." Too many toads, eww.

Luneth should have known. In an instant he was looking at the back of Ingus's and Arc's heads, and then all he saw was marshy grass and water. BAM! was the sound off his fail, and he wondered for a second if he ended up squishing any toads.

He smiled when he looked up, though. He should have known better - Refia only cared, even about the one silver-haired kid who probably hurt her the most. Even childish passes were still passes. But he knew that even though Refia might have been angry ... she wouldn't hate him forever.

He stood up, trying to swipe excess water from his front, the smile still pretty wide. Sometimes he preferred the occasional batterings and harsh words and ignoring over the swats Elder Nina gave him for his constant nuisances. Because that meant that he was closer to her, and it hurt more.

No sorry just yet, Luneth. He followed behind them with an unseen grin, his chocobo's rein lightly clutched in his grubby hands.
