By the time Wakka had seen Lulu's message on the network, Tidus and Yuna had already taken off to pick her up -- leaving him miffed, at first, that he'd been left behind, but afterwards he was grateful for the time it allowed him to regain his composure. Finding out the two of them had a son when he hadn't even been able to get up the nerve to ask her to marry him yet? It was great news, but a surprise nonetheless.

He had pushed most of his nervousness aside by time she arrived. What was there to be scared of, anyway? Apparently, she was going to say 'yes.' And clearly, things had been going well for them.

Smoothing his hair back as well as he could (which was to say not very), he cautiously pushed the front door open and stepped outside to meet her, having spotted her pacing through the window. Why hadn't she just come inside? He shook his head as if to clear it and smiled.

"Hey, Lu."

Lulu stopped her pacing carefully as to not wake up Vidina. He was draped over her shoulder, tiny arms wrapped around her neck. It had been a long journey for the little guy, and he'd thankfully sleep through the entire night.

Lulu herself looked a bit tired. Maybe it was just motherhood, maybe it was the long trip from the Forgotten City. But in her tiredness, her eyes lit up, and she smiled when she saw him.

"Hello, Wakka."

His own smile brightened in return; anticipation was one thing, but now that she was here in the flesh, he couldn't help feeling relieved. He had already been telling Tidus and Yuna that Lu was the one thing Gaia was missing. She'd made him wish he were back in Spira, but now... he could get used to this place. Those who mattered most to him were here.

"And... this is Vidina, ya?"

Vidina. ... was that an Al-Bhed name?

With Tidus and Yuna talking to her the entire way down, a few bits and pieces of memories were coming back. It seemed like a dream, really. She wasn't quite sure if they were real or not, and she was just fabricating these memories based on what they were saying.

She nodded once, shifting the boy in her arms, his red hair coming into view. "Come meet your son."

Those words were enough to cause his cheeks to turn red, a new wave of nerves washing over him all of a sudden. He didn't know anything about babies. He didn't know how to take care of a person so small, they couldn't do anything for themselves. Was he a miserable father back in Spira? Or was it one of those things that just came to you when the opportunity arrived?

He only nodded, stepping forward and holding an arm out as a safeguard as he leaned in to get a look at the bundle in her arms. Well, that red hair was unmistakeably his. "Hey there, little brudda," he cooed, his voice several notches higher than it would have been normally. "Long trip, ya?"

She was always expecting nervousness with her husband. He had been nervous when he proposed, nervous when she had told him she was pregnant, nervous when she had the baby and when he held the little baby for the first time. It took him several days to even pick a name! But that was what she loved about him.

Vidina shifted in her arms, responding to his father's voice. He seemed happier now, now that his family was together.

"You named him."

"I did? It's an Al-Bhed name, isn't it?" His words held no trace of the malice they might have as little as a year ago, when he had still been stubbornly blind to any redeeming qualities the Al-Bhed might have had. Things were different now. He had changed his mind about a lot of things, the Al-Bhed included. He had even been studying some of the primers Tidus had collected in an attempt to make peace with Rikku, something of an apology for all of the things he'd said against her kind. Yuna, too, deserved an apology.

"... future, ya?" He grinned, proudly. "Not bad, if I say so myself."

"Took you long enough to think of it, though."

Her usual quiet tone had a teasing hint to it, but it was true. Naming their son had been a huge decision for him, and she knew he had wanted to pick the right name. The fact that he had picked an Al-Bhed name had made her proud of him.

"We thought we might see the end of the Calm."

"Hey, I bet I had a good reason for takin' my time!" Wakka defended himself with a laugh. "Probably had to make sure it was just right. Not the kind of decision you make lightly, ya?"

"True."

In truth, she was happy with the name he had picked out. It was something she wasn't expecting. What she had been expecting was a traditional name from Besaid, or even naming him after his brother. It would have been a fitting tribute.

"It's a good name."

He leaned over the bundle in her arms a second time, attempting to get a better look at his son. The resemblance was unmistakable. A day earlier, he never would have believed he had a kid. Even if Tidus had been the one to give him the news, he would have been doubtful. He hadn't even thought about kids yet -- of course, he had been thinking about marriage, and kids kind of naturally followed such an event, but he hadn't planned that far ahead. Not yet. In truth, he was still sort of stunned, even if pleasantly so.

"How old is he?" he asked, glancing up at her.

"Nearly a year."

Which would explain why the kid got into everything now. Walking and talking a bit, playing with his father's blitzball. She had a feeling Vidina would be a blitzer one day.

"He takes a lot after you."

"A year," Wakka repeated. "So we've been married awhile." He sounded pleased, more than questioning, and his smile had softened somewhat. He couldn't remember what he had been so nervous about before coming to Gaia. Of course Lu would have said yes. Why not? They'd never really talked about it, but they both knew there was something between them. Problem was, Chappu had been between them, too.

... oh. That's what he'd been nervous about. But they'd moved past it, hadn't they? Lulu and Vidina were living proof of that.

"Full of energy then, ya? We got us a troublemaker, I bet."

"Well then he's certainly you're son."

There's a fond look to him, a look reserved only for him.

"I'm... glad you're here. Tidus said you weren't here the last time I was."

The look took him by surprise; it wasn't an expression he was used to seeing on her. He smiled broadly, feeling his own lips spread from ear-to-ear and guessing that he must have looked absolutely ridiculous at that moment in time. It didn't matter. This felt right. The jitters he'd had back home had melted away. Clearly, there was nothing to be afraid of.

"When I got here and realized you hadn't come along... I was heartbroken, ya?" He laid his hand against her forearm. "I would never leave you alone, Lu. Not if I could help it."
