Rishfee had made his way to Lindblum at the exact moment he'd heard the child trying to choke back tears over mooglenet. While he still had little idea what was wrong with her - why she was so upset or how, he just knew that it was imperative to get there quickly. Eiko had turned important to him rather quickly -- she was reminiscent of that someone. Someone he'd pledged his life to, and someone he had later failed through what Amnaf would likely call "bring too kind". Yet he could not think of being anything but kind with her - the Empress. Since her father's death, her life had been nothing but what it should have been. He remembered standing there - just looking at her, the girl which would become the Empress, while Amnaf had briskly told her what was happening alike any other report.

...She was six years old.

"We bring news. The Divine Emperor's immortal soul has passed out of the realm of Urhguum. You must gather your things. You are to be moved to Walahra Temple to be educated in your new role as Divine Empress."

He remembered her face. The only thing which more more present than the look of horror upon her small features was the tears streaming down her face at the loss of the man she'd adored.

...She was six years old, damn it.

At five, she had lost her mother to plague. Now a year later, her father, the Emperor Jalzaahn, had succumbed to the same virus. She was completely and utterly alone from that day on. In the temple - she was passed off as a high-ranking noble. The other children picked on her relentlessly for her shyness, and he had to quietly observe all of it. He'd interfered once or twice, when their words got too cruel or things looked like they were going to come to blows; but always got reprimanded later. There was only so much Amnaf could have kept quiet, and the other Immortals weren't ones to hide discrepancy. His actions of defending her were too suspicious - and it wasn't long before he was removed from the watch. ...Not long after her 12th birthday the Empress was almost assassinated. It wasn't Amnaf's fault. Certainly not -- but afterward he'd become her personal guard. He'd seen her learn to activate Mnejing - her father's prized automation which had simply been gathering dust since his death, and he'd watched her brother commission the manufacture of Ovjang as a gift for her thirteenth birthday. That... had been it. She was still alone - removed from Walahra Temple for the risk of another incident happening and concealed inside her chamber in the Imperial Ward.

It was Aht Urhgan custom for the Empress to not be seen by any living person. She spent her life behind a curtain, and even her own brother was no longer permitted to speak to her face to face. The loneliness the girl experienced had intensified and become intolerable... were it not for her automations. She spoke to them. Danced with them, and argued with them daily. She'd always loved to talk. Even if she was only really talking to herself. While it was apparent to one that knew about the nature of the devices that she was controlling everything they did really - Ovjang and Mnejing were the closest things to friends she had. He could almost hear her scolding Ovjang behind the curtain even now.

...Almost.

As the Immortal made his way to Lindblum, he tried to erase the memories that admittedly had quite consumed him. Eiko... she would likely not suffer a fate of perpetual lonliness like the Empress. Things were different here - things were strange, but she didn't seem to be carrying the weight of the country upon her shoulders. Yet still. The poor girl...

He snuck through the Regent Cid's residence with the easy pattern of one which had done it before, and took a sidelong glance to the hall to check for guards before knocking lightly at Eiko's door before entering. Back then, though nothing but a guard, he could see the fact the Empress suffered terribly. Things were different here. The strict, and at times overbearing Aht Urhgan customs were not employed. So maybe...

...Maybe now he would be in a position to do something. She wasn't the Empress. Eiko wasn't even close.
But he wasn't going to let her suffer as the Empress had.
