Ultimecia waited at the back of the crowd, a smile curving her lips as she watched the would-be heroes come. They would come - and they would fall. No one could stand against the mistress of time, the Sorceress of the ages - she possessed powers they could only dream of in their wildest imaginings.

"So you have kome to try and defeat me - insolent fools. SeeD, their pathetik friends and their pathetik hope, you may all go to hell!"

Without waiting for any other declarations, nor for anyone to attack, the Sorceress held up her hands and cast Quake. The ground shook and buckled, jumping and falling, sending the entire area around where she was standing into convulsions and turning the entire battlefield into a danger zone.

ooc; And this is the Ulti-fight. Looks like there's going to be too many people for me to give every last one of them specific attention and responses, so if you've got something particular in mind for your character (heavy injury, getting KO'd and dragged out by friends), go ahead and do it whenever it seems like ( ... )

(As usual, Terra had cast Protect, Haste, Regen and Shell on anyone interested just before the battle.)

Terra yelped as the effects of the Quake spell reached her, losing her balance and tumbling to the ground. Ultimecia's attack threw her mentally as well as physically, since Terra couldn't remember her ever having that spell as one of Chaos' warriors. With a sinking feeling, the young woman realized that she wasn't as prepared for this fight as she had thought.

Leaping into the air the moment she got a chance, Terra then transformed. This was no time to feel self-conscious and she knew she had to attack before Celes (sensibly) activated Runic. Concentrating, she then cast Dispel and Holy, sending three balls of light twice in quick succession.

The Quake had startled Cloud almost as much as Terra. Ultimecia hadn't had this ability in the Void! Dragging himself to his feet, he ran drawing First Tsurugi to take swings for Ultimecia, thankful that everyone had managed to get through the Black Mages, though he had a rather unpleasant scorch mark over his left arm.

Seeing Terra transform, Cloud smirked faintly, watching her magic and dodging it to keep himself from being hit by it too, or by the attacks of anyone else. They were just going to have to bring her down with the force of everyone.

Quake was unfortunately one of the few spells Runic didn't absorb, so Celes was forced to deal with the consequences of that spell. She'd made sure to give as many people as possible a briefing on her special ability before they went in. Magic absorption. It meant any spell cast at her while the ability was active would be absorbed, healing or damaging. It didn't matter. As long as they gave her enough time before casting healing spells to be sure Runic wouldn't be active at the wrong time, she didn't care keeping an eye on it.

She'd already been hurt a little by the mages, though she'd had a field day showing them why it was important not to mess with a Magitek Knight. And now she was aiming for the Sorceress herself, trying to get around to the side opposite Cloud if possible. If they could force Ultimecia to split her attention, all the better.

"There is no try!" she yelled at the idiot woman. "We will bring you down!"

Squall, on the other hand, wasn't surprised in the least to find Ultimecia casting Quake. It was certainly annoying and inconvenient, but not actually surprising. She'd always been a Sorceress, and that meant magic.

And inconvenience, but that was only to be expected, as he draw Lionheart and followed Cloud on in to make his own mark on the Sorceress, dodging Terra's spells as he went. If Ultimecia was here, he'd fight her - that's all there was to it.

Stunned as she always was by the beauty of Terra's esper form, Relm shook herself out of her stupor. Her ink brush dashed across her open sketchbook, capturing the sorceress' essence in black ink and magic older than black and white. Even as the ground tossed her through the air she kept painting until Ultemecia's hand reached out from the page, grasping at air before aiming itself it its inspiration and casting flare.

As it did, the ground tossed the small artist into the air. Her concentration broken, the hand dissolved back into ink and splattered across the ground. She tubled back to the floor and stumbled up again, scowling.

Whatever she was doing on the field, Celes was also keeping an eye on Relm, making sure to protect the girl as much as she could while she came in to slice at the Sorceress, shield held high.

Terra was likewise focused on protecting Relm, remaining at a distance with the girl while Celes closed in on the Sorceress. She trusted in the Regen cast to help Relm recover, though, and hovered nearby while charging up the energy for another magical attack....

Tifa started off at Cloud's side, but when the quake hit she tumbled away from him, enduring the effects of the spell until the rumbling subsided and she could get to her feet again.

She had to get close to Ultimecia. Her whole fighting style depended on it. So she chased after the others, charging in to throw a punch at the Sorceress.

And the Sorceress simply laughed at all their pathetic attacks - to think that they would be able to take her on, the Mistress of Time, the one with the power to control their destinies.

Her form faded from where she stood, quickly reappearing a good ten feet to the left of where she'd begun. "You think you can defeat me, me! The destroyer of SeeD, the konqueror of the world!"

Another gesture, and a large, violent Tornado was speeding across the battlefield, not touching its mistress but sweeping along all else in its path, including a few mage hats that had flown back to her position.

She was just beginning.

"We don't think; we know."

But that was all Celes allowed herself to say before she was forced to dig her feet into the ground to hold herself in place. Her shield took the brunt of the wind damage, as she hid behind it and pushed back with it. Anyone behind her could also use her to block most of the wind damage.

Breathing deeper, Celes reached into herself for strength and anger, letting the cool general take over.

"Relm! Spell me!"

If they could work together on this, they might have an easier chance of landing a hit or two on her.

Terra, already airborne, had nothing to hold onto. She wasn't about to let the spell toss her around, though. Quickly, she conjured a trio of small tornadoes that swirled about her, though she was careful to make sure that no one near her was caught up in tehm. As they spun about to combine into one, they managed to deflect the brunt of Ultimecia's attack.

As Celes shouted, Terra held off her elemental attacks for a moment, attempting to direct a Silence spell at Ultimecia. Who knew if it would actually take effect, but she had to try....

Again? What was with their enemies liking to use Tornado? Admittedly, it was certainly a powerful attack, but that didn't make it any easier to actually deal with in combat, and he jammed the point of his gunblade into the ground to make a crude sort of anchor.

And as soon as the winds died down, he too was charging in. The more threats there were, the more likely it would be that Ultimecia would have to pick one of them as her target.

Ultimecia's teleporting confused Tifa for a moment. Well, that was inconvenient. And then the tornado hit and she had nothing to brace herself against or to protect her. It blasted her through the air and she crashed back into the ground with a bone-cracking thud.

Tifa pulled herself up with a groan, nursing her arm. It felt like she'd dislocated something.
