Firion nodded and fired an arrow straight into the creature's skull, killing it in one blow. He had noticed the struggle Minwu was having but hadn't wanted to interfere. Was his magic also gone? How could that be? He was the most powerful sage! How could he have been reduced to a mere... beginner?

"What's wrong, Minwu?"

Not quite. He understood exactly where his power was focused now - but couldn't fathom why. Allowing himself a quick cure- he rested upon his staff, face thoughtful as he examined the thing. Could relic weapons break? He didn't assume so. This thing had survived through ages and ages of time intact, and furthermore didn't have a mark on it.

He moved his gaze to the youth to answer. "It appears I can no longer use any spells of the dark school of magic. Flare, Drain, Aspir and Fear... they're gone. But Ultima is not affected. Nor Holy."

A pause.

"Did anything like this happen to you?"

Firion nodded. "I can't use any magic, it seems. Merely my weapons. I have not tried, since, to attain magic again."

Which meant he wasn't sure if he could learn them again. Otherwise, his weapons hadn't been affected, just the staff he carried.

"Even Ultima?" the mage asked, before shaking his head and considering things for the quickest of moments.

Of course Firion had meant Ultima. It was magic after all. In sense, the opposite to him had happened to Firion. He'd lost spells, granted - yet he'd received interesting forms of white magic in place of the black magic he'd lost. But his skill with the staff had become distinctly worse than average. Firion... had lost all of his magic, yet retained his mastery of weapons. (barring the staff.)

For all he thought, he kept drawing the same blank. He'd never heard of anything like this happening before. "Well..." he started, approaching the other and allowing himself the smallest of sighs. "This would likely complicate things should you eventually return."
