Taking a breath in, Cloud blinked his eyes open, finding himself sat on the ground by the Iifa Tree, not a single wound on him, alive. It was true then? The tree really did resurrect people. How long had it been? Slipping his hand into his pocket, Cloud drew his phone out and checked the date. A week? What had happened anyway?
Looking around, he didn't see anyone else, so maybe things hadn't gone wrong. Maybe he'd died but Sephiroth hadn't killed Cid or anyone else. He vaguely recalled Angeal's voice... and Genesis. Then they must have gotten Sephiroth away and quickly. It only made sense as he stayed there, on the ground, staring at his phone. Yet he knew Tifa. He knew how quick to jump into a fight she was and how she wouldn't care what anyone said. She'd want Sephiroth dead for killing him and he could only hope she and the others hadn't all gone running to find him and hunt him down. The thought of it all did make him feel glad he had friends that would risk their lives to avenge him, but even with how inwardly betrayed he felt by Vincent being so suddenly close to Sephiroth thanks to the time he seemed to spend with them all in Wutai, Cloud hoped maybe he hadn't gone rampaging after Sephiroth's blood too.
Taking a slow breath in, Cloud pushed himself to his feet. He had to see just what a mess his insanity had caused. It was that instant his gaze found his bicep and he closed his eyes in relief at the lack of Geostigma. As long as the nethicite wasn't going to overpower him again, he could figure out a way to keep everything under control. He knew now, in his clear state of mind, what had happened. The Rooks had swarmed him and very nearly killed him, causing his JENOVA cells to reproduce Geostigma, in turn affecting him mentally in a way that very little could. He was angry. He still was now. Sephiroth got a second chance at sanity and he got to keep all the pain, the guilt, everything. It was unfair. It was spiteful of Garland to bring his enemy, his nemesis, to Gaia in this form.
Just like Garland.
Honestly, Cloud could snap again. He knew he could. Pushed in the wrong direction and he could turn against Sephiroth again. He just planned to do it at a time he was strong if it was meant to happen. Otherwise, he would try not to break Sephiroth's mind and let him slide off that edge. The blonde was jealous. Bitter, full of resentment, hurt and upset. Yet he knew this wasn't about him. It was about everyone else. He could get upset when he was alone. He had a reason not to fight now. I wonder if Firion and Tidus will be glad... Probably not. He knew he was in for some trouble from people for provoking Sephiroth. He needed to speak to the man himself, even if it was over the phone. Or perhaps if it was face to face with Genesis and Angeal to keep things civil. He needed to apologise for letting his emotions get the best of him, even if he was mad out of his mind.
There were many people to speak to. Sephiroth, Tifa, Vincent... but first things first, he needed to inform everyone he was alive. A silent sigh escaped him and Cloud pressed at his phone, absently looking over his shoulder at the tree. When had everything gone so wrong?
