Jack looked up from where he was sliding a soft cloth through the barrel of his sawed off and blinked.

Jack arched his eyebrows and picked up the stock of the shotgun, working on it next.

Then he sighed and shook his head at himself, he really needed to put a filter on his mouth at times.

"Anyway, how goes the beat today, Officer?"

"Beat goes on," Gene said, unaware of any mirth that may be involved with that statement. "No leads on the damn robberies of late, which is rather infuriating."

"Robberies?" Jack had missed this bit of news or perhaps he hadn't paid attention to it, since weevils were notoriously bad pick pockets.

Jack nodded, lips pursed but actually he made it a policy never to interfere on actual police business.

After all, he usually pissed them off enough when it came to the genuine alien stuff.

"Must be nice to have a case to dig into though?"

"Nothing to dig into," Gene said. "Only victims as witnesses, no hard evidence, like chasing a bloody ghost."
