After waking up in a unfamiliar bedroom Dimitri had decided to search through the house, rummaging through drawers, cabinets, whatever, trying to find more informative clues than these weird photographs of him with people he's never met before

[Oh, joy, ANOTHER weird guy in her house. How many did this make? Three? Four? Toni had lost count.]

[Her voice startles him, but he regains his composure when he turns around to face her, and he holds up a photograph of the two of them.]

[Toni grimaces. She is never going to get used to those pictures.]

Okay, there's no way to explain this without making it sound believable, so I'm not even gonna try. You've been kidnapped and you're stuck in this creepy town, and for whatever reason everyone that comes here get sorted into a house and has to be a member of that house's 'family'. I'm the wife here, there's another guy around here who's the son, and from the looks of it, you're the new husband. Congratulations?

New husband? Is that the role I'm supposed to play in this facsimile of a town?

Pretty much. If you're really 'lucky', they'll give you a job, too. I'm a hairstylist. Name's Toni, by the way.

Have I already been assigned a job, or am I allowed to choose one myself?

Yeah, this really isn't the best place to meet people, huh?

It would be nice if we got to pick, but nope. The people in charge of this loony bin like to order us around. I just got a phone call telling me I was late for work one day.

Do you know who's in charge?

Well, there's the mayor of the town, but he just makes cryptic phone calls a lot. His lackey is Officer Grady, the chief of police. He's kind of a power-tripping dick, so you should avoid him if you can. You can't really get close to either of them, they won't let you.

All right. I didn't expect it would be that easy. Are they especially dangerous?

Extremely. From what I've heard, they can make things happen to you. They've killed a lot of people here. Of course, nobody stays dead here, either.

What do you mean by that? That can't be possible!

I know, right? I haven't, uh, experienced it first hand, but I know people here who have died. I've seen them die. And they wake up the next morning like nothing happened. Things don't work like they're supposed to here.

I suppose that's almost a small mercy, but for dead to be able to come back... How is this town - all of it - even able to exist?

That's something nobody's figured out yet.

If I weren't so certain this is real, I'd almost think I was only dreaming this.
