Hmmm, I thought I should put my own opinions of WWIII up. So, here they are.
First of all, seeing the doctor just get out of the electrocution thing like he did made me grin. I was like, "Yup, they said it'd be the alien/two heart thing". Though, the Doctor didn't mention the two heart thing, that probably a big factor.
Though, I wonder what else is different about him, biologically speaking.
The several references to the aliens getting naked, and the 'rejoice in being naked' thing in the lift? Brilliant! I mean, I'm a slasher in a diff fandom and for a brief part I was like "OMG!!!". If only if they'd get John and Rodney from Atlantis to say that....
We got to see the more serious and darker side of the Doctor again, which I'm just loving. Not so much here as it was in EotW but still... it was there in force. His face when looking at the Slitheen from the Cabinate office... I love Chris. And my doctor is the ninth one *does happy dance*. Lucky me.
Got to see more of Mickey, and the guy is less annoying to me know. He does, as it turns out, have redeaming qualities. Yay! And anyone spot all that stuff in his room? They didn't say it out right (except on the 'whoisdoctorwho' web site). But still, I mean... woohooo! Confirmation. Though, aparently not on the Rickey thing, cause Mickey is used on that web page.
Jackie, I like her. In a she-is-so-annoying kind of way. I mean, she's great. She's such a mom from working class England who just doesn't want to admit she's an adult. The clothes she wears, her reactions to things, perfect. Kinda reminds me of my mom and granma combined, with the few ditzy aspects of my sister thrown in. But she loves her daughter, and worries for her, and that comes through so much.
The "I could save the world but loose you" wasn't quite as dramatic as I'd hoped. Still, it was damn good. And the look on the Doctor's face!
The fact that Rose would let him do what he needed to do, even knowing that it was very dangerous, no questions asked.... I love that! The trust she has in him, the caring they have for each other that is so obvious. And how every one seems to think they're together or pinning or something (and here I restrain myself from making jokes about parrots).
And then the MP ordering the Doctor to do it anyway, loved that. Putting everyone's lives ahead of her own, and just putting that final push that made the Doctor do what he had too. I like her.
You know, if I were the PM and I found out they were making this, I'd ask if I could play the dead PM from AoL. Cause I mean, these are two good episodes (well, they all are) and it'd be too good to pass up.
That, and they got the actual, real, BBC news broadcaster who does the political stuff! I mean, this is why making stuff on the BBC can be great. Just these little details.
The Doctor refusing the dinner invitation, and the words he used to do it. It implies that having dinner with Rose's mom means something far different to him than it would to him. What could that be? *shipper inside Neth starts waving banners and grinn innocently*. I mean, the sharing of food does tend to have major cultral implications, in lots of cultures. What it could mean to a Time Lord? By the looks of it, something very very big. I'm hoping thinking some sort of major courting thing, massive. Of course, does he tell her? No. He just offerst to let her stay or take her with him to a storm inside a nebula.
And then Rose not even thinking twice about it. The panic when Jackie comes into the living room and see's her gone. Poor Jackie, poor poor Jackie.
The kid scrubbing off the 'Bad Wolf' from the TARDIS after they blew up the Downing Street? Love it! I don't think the Bad Wolf thing has gone away, I just love how it was shown these last two episodes.
The Doctor offering to let Mickey come along with him. I think he knew that the guy wouldn't go with him, but felt that he should ask anyway. He helped save the world, and Rose kind of liked him. So I liked the Doc/Mickey stuff here, in a purely non-slash way.
Also, the "I'll be back in 10 seconds" thing was good. I know she was just using it to reasure her mom, probably. But I have this scene in my head of Rose returning after a few years, for her, with the Doctor in a new form. After 10 seconds. "Hi mum, this is the Doctor. Only, he has a new body. And his personality is slightly different. Still him though".
*g*
Anyone want to write that?
In anycase, I really liked this episode. Not as much as some of the others but it was really very good.
Also, the previews to the next episode, and the stuff on confidential?
Naked or more likely semi-naked Doctor? Wooohooo!! Pluss the Dalek going up to Rose and...
I can't wait for more.
I love this show.
