Disclaimer: Do not own.
Summary: She’s trying to distract him, he can tell, but oh, it is working. It’s a bit like being struck with a two-by-four or a particularly skeletal fish; the shift from irritation and avoidance to attraction is flummoxing.

“I want,” she says, and stops. Looks at him as if the sentence really cannot be finished.
This is so much the essence of the Doctor and Rose's relationship, even in this version. So much wanting, so much denial of what they think they can't have. Especially when he's not really himself.
“One of the men waiting finds out at the end that Godot isn’t even real. He lies to his friend about it, though, so they’ll stay together. That’s all they’ve really got by that point, the waiting.”
The parallel you are drawing here is amazing, but twisted of course, since it's John Smith who isn't really real and the person they are waiting for to show back up again, the Doctor, is.
Still, knowing she wants him, thinking she might love him, it hurts when she refuses to take him.Oh, poor, poor confused John. Loved the whole bit of dialogue about he'll know when because it'll be obvious. And it will be, but will he still want her the same way when he's actually the Doctor and it's still obvious? And since he's not really himself, it's a bit more than what they simply think they can't have. Him not being him also means that she can't really be herself either, I feel.
I can't decide if I want her to give into him now (well, I do want it) so that she'll at least have that much to hold onto later.
At the moment, she's definitely focused more on what he might regret doing rather than on what she would regret not doing. That's love for you.
Happy Birthday to IHH, though I seriously hope it doesn't turn 3 before it's done.
Thanks and I really, really hope so too. Still, I think I've planned out the way to the finish enough for it to be smooth and steady going now.
