Actually what I found interesting there is that he didn't use Martha as an example instead/as well. She was the one that wanted space not Rose. So the Doctor's mind still automatically goes back to Rose when he thinks about lost friends.

It seems to be in order, but you gotta wonder why he put the TARDIS at the end of that list. In a way, the TARDIS has been a 'companion' from the very start, if you know what I mean.
