I had a thought.

If they go with the "Doctor is half-human" bit from the TV movie...

...could River Song be his mother?

Hell, it's better than the other possibility, where she's his wife. The slight flirtatiousness is a bit weird in that case but...

Yeah, very unlikely, and I think we have to face that the Doctor may find someone other than Rose to possibly marry or whatever.

I really wanted her to have whispered "I'm Rose's daughter" or "Jack's wife" and just have all our problems solved.

I had that thought, too. But River says she's never seen the Doc so young (if she were his mom, she'd've seen him quite a bit younger!), and she's a bit, er, flirty for a mother figure....
